You could ask the WP Smush.it plugin developers to add a hook to images outside the WordPress Image Library.
We’re getting a lot of requests to adapt lazyest-gallery to other plugins. We don’t have the time to investigate and build all those adaptations. But, if you happen to have a working patch for lazyest-gallery we’d be happy to add it to a future release.

It’s probably a javascript clash.
Unfortunately, Featured Content Gallery does not enqueue the scripts.

Er, just create a folder called foosbirthday (or whatever name) and set the caption to “Foo’s Birthday”. The caption can be displayed instead of the directory name and you don’t have to deal with those ugly %27 in your url. ??

That is not true, You don’t need Windows software.
You can upload files by ftp or with the Lazyest Gallery file uploader on the Edit Folder page.
The XP upload wizard is an extra for Windows XP users. You don’t need it to get your files to your gallery.
