What I need is to have the page to be able to be managed within the wordpress system. A static page wouldn’t allow me to do that. Any other ideas?

My theme has the default home page to be the main blog, but I would like to have it be one of the other pages (i.e. the blog should be in addition to the website, but the home page should have basic static content). How do I force a page that is managed within wordpress to become the default home page?
