    Yes, you are using the latest updates, but that does not mean the theme does not need an update in order to work properly with the latest WordPress.

    Have you tried using the default template for other pages where you want your header image displayed?

    I am not an in-depth coder of any kind, so my best guess would be that possibly something in the theme’s code might no longer be consistent with the current version of WordPress. However, maybe this is something as simple as the latest WordPress using some other method of locating and using a Home-Page image.

    I just took a quick look at Shipyard8c and I believe all templates are in place as I had made them. Overall, I believe this link shows what you should have:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/making-sense-of-categories-and-versions-of-so-many-templates/

    If you are using a template that includes “Home” in its description, you Home header image should appear. If it does not, then someone will likely have to figure out why your image is not being found by the template that is calling for it.

    After I was no longer using self-hosted WordPress, the author of Shipyard did some updating of the Shipyard parent theme as well as some updating of Shipyard8c. I do not know why he would have changed any Shipyard8c templates, but maybe something happened there. I will download a copy of Shipyard8c and try to see whatever I might be able to see that might be causing your dilemma. However, I am no longer actively doing anything with either theme and could only possibly try to help a bit if you might want to make or edit your own page templates.

    >> So, I can choose from right in the “template pull down menu” what I want the page to be in wp theme page, and it not change my home page???

    First, all of this is assuming you have the “Shipyard” theme downloaded and installed as the Parent Theme for the “Shipyard8c” Child Theme that is activated as you site’s active theme. With those things in place in that way, each individual page can then have any “Shipyard8c” page template selected for that specific page, and your main page will not be changed unless you specifically select a non-default template for your home page.

    >> …my friend got me to try WP and I’m learning how everything works….

    WordPress is a hands-on, ground-level experience that is almost infinitely customizable, so do not give up too early!

    Shipyard8c is a theme that contains many templates for displaying pages, and your main page is using the theme’s default template that includes the header. To have the header show on any other page, you can go to “Pages” at your WordPress Dashboard and then “Edit” the page to select the theme’s template for displaying that page.

    I am no longer active with self-hosted WordPress, so I no longer have the theme running at a site where you could see the many varieties. Shipyard8c has more page templates than any other theme you might ever find anywhere, so you have a wide variety of options there without changing themes.

    >> the header shows up on main page but not the rest

    Different templates do different things, and the remainder of your pages are not using a template that shows the header. You can edit each page to choose any of the many templates available for showing or not showing the header, footer and widget areas.

    You were definitely correct about the problem being in my footer, Andrew. Here is the troubling line and the error report in my local Xampp:

    <?php echo nonameyet_copyright(); ?>

    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function nonameyet_copyright() in F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-content\themes\20nny12\links-footer.php:4 Stack trace: #0 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\template.php(690): require() #1 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\template.php(647): load_template('F:\\xampp\\htdocs...', false) #2 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\general-template.php(167): locate_template(Array, true, false) #3 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-content\themes\20nny12\footer.php(21): get_template_part('links', 'footer') #4 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\template.php(688): require_once('F:\\xampp\\htdocs...') #5 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\template.php(647): load_template('F:\\xampp\\htdocs...', true) #6 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\general-template.php(84): locate_template(Array, true) #7 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-content\themes\twentytwelve\page.php(29): get_footer() #8 F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-includes\template-loader.php(74): inclu in F:\xampp\htdocs\b2_nonameyet\wp-content\themes\20nny12\links-footer.php on line 4

    That line is supposed to show a copyright date range something like 2012-2017, but I do not recall where I first got it and I do not know why it has suddenly become a problem.

    edit: The [Visitor Maps] shortcode is still not working, but the Sidebar, widgets and Admin Bar are fine and maybe all will be well after I complete a file-by-file re-build of my Child Theme.

    Same here! ??

    I just now checked with FileZilla. My Child Theme style.css shows 1.3.2.2 (my own numbering) and Twenty Twelve’s is 2.3. Overall, however, I do not use Twenty Twelve’s style.css at all and I had been planning to update my own style.css by doing a side-by-side comparison with 2.3. So, maybe the trouble is somewhere in there.

    Thread Starter leejosepho

    (@leejosepho)

    I just now compared my own footer.php with Twenty Twelve’s and I do not see any significant difference. Also, my Twenty Twelve was 2.2 as of just a few months ago, so I have never had any huge jump from 1.0 to 2.3 anywhere.

    Also, I did not see what I was expecting for the usual Twenty Twelve footer widgets at the Dashboard so I could check Visitor Maps, but maybe those were the “Front Page Widget Areas” and I have just forgotten what Twenty Twelve calls them. In any case, I did not leave Twenty Twelve active because its overall appearance is not even close to that of my Child Theme.

    Thread Starter leejosepho

    (@leejosepho)

    Oops, I was wrong about the problem persisting with the default Twenty Twelve active. I am certain that was the case when I tried the switch locally in Xampp a few days ago, but I just tried Twenty Twelve at the live site for a couple of minutes and the Sidebar and its accordion widgets were just fine. So, the problem is with my Child Theme and I am assuming it began at the 4.8 update since I am at the site daily and had not noticed anything wrong before then.

    I will mark this thread as “Resolved” since 4.8 no longer appears to have broken Twenty Twelve, and I would greatly welcome any suggestions you might have about how I might try to figure out what is actually wrong.

    Many thanks!

    PS: I use Notepad++ to compare files.

    Many thanks for your time and effort, and here is my Child Theme’s footer.php:

    <?php
    /** Our template for displaying the footer
    * @package WordPress
    * @subpackage Twenty_Twelve
    * @since Twenty Twelve 1.0
    */
    ?>
    </div><!-- #main .wrapper -->
    <div id="footerwidgets">
    	<?php if (is_active_sidebar('left-footer')):?>
    	<div id="footer-left"><?php dynamic_sidebar('left-footer');?>
    	</div><?php endif;?>
    	<?php if (is_active_sidebar('center-footer')):?>
    	<div id="footer-middle"><?php dynamic_sidebar('center-footer');?>
    	</div><?php endif;?>
    	<?php if (is_active_sidebar('right-footer')):?>
    	<div id="footer-right"><?php dynamic_sidebar('right-footer');?>
    	</div><?php endif;?>
    </div>
    <footer id="colophon" role="contentinfo">
    	<?php get_template_part('links','footer');?>
    </footer>
    </div><!-- #page -->
    <?php wp_footer();?>
    </body>
    </html>

    At the moment my brain is too tired for comparing that to the original, but maybe something might jump out at you…

    …and yes, the issue persists even with the current Twenty Twelve theme activated.

    The plugin’s settings are definitely fine, and there are other scripts not loading or whatever also. You can see the [visitor-maps] shortcode in the bottom-left footer widget where the map should actually be, and my Admin Bar displays only at the back of the site.
