I did go to settings > permalinks, set to post name, save changes. post is published and set to public. also updated theme, core, plugins. Then I went through and deactivated unused plugins one by one. Eureka! I think it was a Redirect plug in causing problems. looks like someone installed it years ago, but it wasn’t actively collecting information. It’s now deactivated. Should I delete it all together?
Right now I’m trying to finish links in this newly created page.
When I’m finished with all the updates I want to make, I’ll revisit plugins and delete items I find not in use.
    Thanks, Felipe!

nope. not working. i even deleted cache in the autoptimize. should I maybe disable that plugin? is that the problem? still, I can create a page, and it works in preview, but when i publish, it reverts to the home page instead of the new page I’ve created.

Ok. I installed the classic editor. the website isn’t broken! But, I’ve discovered, the site was created using Fusion Builder. I think this is why it all converted to shortcode. But, ok, I can work with that. It’s not totally unlike blocks. So I try. Same problem. I created a new page, using the Fusion Builder. It looks good in preview, but when I publish, the 404 error returns. sooooo… issue still not solved.
