I had taken a peek at the permissions and they looked right to me, so I’ll open up a support ticket with the host. The real mystery is figuring out how and why they changed.

It seems to be failing to load a number of CSS files (I changed the name of the domain for this post):

Why would they be forbidden and how do I “allow” them?

Yes, it was working. When did it quit? Sometime after 09/07/2015. There have been a few updates since then, including 4.3.1. I had thought perhaps it was the theme, so I switched themes and the issue is still there.

I did try uploading (overwriting) the wp-includes/tinymce, so I will go back and trying replacing the entire wp-include folder after I delete the disallow entry.

Sigh… still no joy. Clearing my browser cache is getting old…

I’m going to dog pile onto this even though I have a different host and theme. This is maddening to say the least. I have even tried a different Editor plug-in with no joy.

This seems to have stumped the band indeed…

Using WordPress version 4.3.1 with the Twenty Sixteen theme (with a child theme). I am not exactly sure when the default Visual Editor stopped working (the tab is there but none of the button display nor does the content in the edit field) so I downloaded and installed TinyMCE Advanced Version 4.2.5. I have activated the plug-in and I still do not have any sort of Visual editing abilities. I have cleared my cache, used a browser that have never opened this WordPress site, I have tried re-installing WordPress. I’ve tried deactivating and reactivating the plug-in. Nothing seems to be working.

What else should I try?

I just tried the wp4-updates.zip with the updates to Social. Got the message to update my Social settings, it would connect to Facebook but still will not connect to Twitter. Many thanks @fergbrain for sharing – I still don’t know what my particular issue is ??

FYI, I have tried different browsers to try and rule out any sort of caching issues.

Sorry to report – I STILL cannot link my Twitter account to the Social plug-in. I can get Facebook to connect. I’m going to take a peek at @fergbrain suggestion. Sorry @cang Luo I tried, I really did.

I can’t believe this is happening again. I have had this problem before and it really never was fixed. Now the Social plug-in seems to be broken even worse this time. I think I may give the XYZ WP Social Media Auto Publish plug-in a whirl.

Well, I’m not getting an error, but I’m still getting my Twitter account to sync up. Also if I have my Facebook account in place, when I try to add Twitter it wipes out all the settings for Facebook.

Let me know if you find something user friendly out. I’ve got the same blank screen issue.

I have Version 4.3.3 of Google Analytics for WordPress and WordPress 3.5.2.

That much I figured – I guess it’s the “hook” to keep them at WordPress.com instead of hosting WordPress them self.

What if no hidden .maintenance file exisits? I have looked high and low for this hidden file and I don’t have one, but I do have the message:

An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.

What if it’s not there? I can see other “hidden” type files but don’t see a .maintenance file.
