In reply to: Using a pre-existing subdirectory installWere you logged out at one time? You may just need to log back in at yoursite.com/wpdirectory/wp-login.php
If that’s the case, your admin panel bar will show up again.

In reply to: Changing my URLSounds like you installed WordPress on your own machine, srshrake, which is a great first step since it will allow you test your site setup locally.
I see that you haven’t registered the domain name (www.shelbyrebeccaphotography.com) that you want yet. You’ll have to secure that domain name and sign up with a hosting service. Many hosting services (like bluehost.com, dreamhost.com, etc) can help you do both those things at once.
Once that’s done, you’ll need to go through the steps to install your site on that server. If you have further questions, ask away ??

In reply to: Is there an easy way to format copied text?Try using TextWrangler if you’re on a mac. You can paste in your text and then ‘view invisibles’ and see if there are actual hard returns in the text. You can then do a find/replace using special characters to replace the line breaks with plain spaces.
Special Characters
You can use the following special characters to search for line breaks and other non-printing characters, as well as hexadecimal escapes to search for any desired 8-bit character.
Character Matches
\r line break (carriage return)(from TextWrangler Help)

In reply to: Error establishing a database connection‘localhost’ should be correct. Have you tried using the Bluehost automatic install option instead? They have an auto-installer in their cpanel which takes a few of the steps out of it.

In reply to: Reopening WordPress on local server after closing itDid you restart MAMP when you returned?
Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: New to WPHave you done any of the following steps? Take a look and let us know how far you’ve gotten.
1. Install MAMP
2. Make sure the document root in MAMP > Preferences > Apache is assigned to the folder you want to keep your site files in. For instance, my site files are all located at Documents > htdocs, but you can assign any folder you like to this.
3. Download WordPress and copy all files to your root folder from #2. You can place them in a subfolder to keep it clean and allow for additional site installs later, if you like.
4. Start Servers in MAMP
5. Create your database using MAMP. Select phpMyAdmin from the MAMP Start webpage. Under “Create new database”, enter in a database name such as “wordpress”, and press “Create.”
6. Open wp-config-sample.php and edit it, then save it as wp-config.php in the same location. Use the following:
database name: [you created this in #5]
database host/server: localhost
database user: root
database password: root7. Go to your install page to finish up: https://localhost:8888/%5Byoursitefolder%5D/wp-login.php

In reply to: Is there an easy way to format copied text? What happens when you try to remove those line breaks manually? Can you give us the url to take a look? The text you copied may have some kind of code remnant in it that you’re not seeing.
