I have found a solution. Instead of using bitnami I have instaled MAMP (that also runs apache/MySQL serves) and now it works.

Maybe someone will find it useful ??

I just need a localhost for wordpress so I can modfy a theme to my liking and add content before I upload it to my hosting.

Thanks for the tip, but I have uploaded .zip file with theme contents only.

As this is one of the super popular non-WP themes I’m beginning to think I might have issues regarding my bitnami/apache2 settings. Although I have tried and installed a fresh version of bitnami twice. Also if I restart MySQL and apache servers (as was recommended on bitnami forums) it doesn’t resolve it.
