Thank you! That was very helpful!

As it turns out, it was a plug-in that was creating custom logins when I de-activate it I can log-out but I can no longer register when it is de-activated. grrrr.
I will try to contact the support of that plugin. But the login link is very helpful and I forget to look at the codex (probably because I am not a developer and don’t usually understand it!) but this time it was helpful.
    thanks again

Hi, thanks for your response. The problem persists with the default wordpress theme. De-activating plug-ins didn’t work though I am not sure that I trust my de-activating because I have multisites running and de-activating network wide seems to activate them in some sites. Another problem? But something I work around and doesn’t stop my site so I try to pretend its normal. One of the sites on the network is a “clean install” of wordpress with the default template running and no content and no plugins active but still does not work. Maybe just a logout php file somewhere to replace?

I think I fixed it… though it was just newbie dumb luck. I actually network de-activated the plugins and then they appeared in the sub-site with an activate link so I activated there. Perhaps I just misunderstand multisites? I thought network activate made them visible to all the sites? Sounds fishy to me and worries me but… as my site is working again I guess i will just cross my fingers and hope for the best!

Hi thanks for your response! The update instructions required deleting the old plugins and then uploaded the new versions. Don’t know why. It was a download for a paid theme.

To better explain, an example is my events calendar plugin. In the dashboard I have my events management and so can create events, etc. but the frontend shows the events page with error “no content found” though the events pages exist and otherwise function. all my plugins are like this. They seem to function but do not on frontend. On my sites dashboard when I click plugins, i see all my plugins and they are activated for the network. But when I go into a specific site they are not in the list of plugins (that said, some plugins do work and are there) I am not a developer at all so a problem like this completely blocks me! I have no idea what to do!
    thannks

Thanks so much. Just knowing how to set the debug was enough to find the problem. Many thanks

Thank you. I also appreciate you taking the time to explain this to us. Hats off to all of you knutters who take on the challenge of developing and maintaining plugins. Can’t imagine how you do it! Well done.
