    Hi, I have a problem where it seems my theme CSS is overriding the Forminator CSS, including any custom CSS.

    This issue has been raised before in this thread but no solution published. It has also been raised in this thread where some custom CSS was provided to fix the drop-down background color only.

    The form in the link is a simple Contact form, however I am creating a much larger multi-page form with a range of field types.

    I am using the Hello Elementor theme but have also switched to Twenty Twenty-Two and the theme overrides the Forminator CSS in both cases.

    My Contact form didn’t used to have this problem when I created it. It had the Forminator CSS with some colors customized through the form settings. I noticed the CSS being overridden in my new form, so went back to my Contact form to see what the differences were, but re-saving the form must have refreshed something and now all the CSS for the Contact form is overridden as well.

    I would be happy to add a few rows of CSS into the customizer (as per the drop-down background fix linked above) but I can’t decipher which CSS to actually modify.

    In particular I was to modify the following:
    – Next/Back/Submit buttons need to be buttons are currently transparent but need a solid fill
    – dropdown backgrounds are transparent but need a solid fill – the thread linked above fixed this for regular drop downs but not for the date field which has Day Month Year drop downs.
    – Error messages need to be more prominent with background and text color.

    Any help on preventing Forminator CSS be overridden or at least providing clues as to customizing the CSS for the three areas above?

    Hi @kofukankarateaustralia

    I hope you are doing good today.

    I could not see any follow in this thread from you:
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/theme-is-overriding-forminator-css/ so that we could replicate the issue.

    As you tested things with Twenty Twenty-Two it seems there must be some sort of issue in your form. I was not able to replicate issues in my lab with my test form and Twenty Twenty-Two themes.

    Can you export your form, upload it to google drive or dropbox, and share a link in your next reply so that we could test it on your side?

    Kind Regards,
    Kris

    Hi Kris thanks for your response.

    My primary/usual theme is Hello Elementor, but I tested Twenty Twenty-Two as well.

    Here is a link to Google Drive folder with my two forms exported.

    Hi @kofukankarateaustralia

    Thank you for response!

    I think we are all missing some additional factor here and there’s something more involved. I have tested your form extensively – with Hello Elementor therem and other themes (Twenty Twenty Two, Twenty Twenty, some custom themes that I had at hand), with and without Elementor plugin (though I only have free version avilable) active – in no case I was able to replicate the issue.

    I do see on your site how (at least some of) styles are forcefully overwritten by theme CSS rules but there must be some additional reason for that, other than Forminator itself or theme (especially that you have replicated it with various themes).

    I noticed that you are using CloudFlare for site. Its cache can be very “persistent” and if there are options for asset optimization enabled (like APO – Automatic Platform Optimization) this can be even more “tricky” sometimes as it may result in a simple but “catastrophic” in this case issue: change of the “order” of how styles are applied to the site content.

    So let’s start this from scratch: can you try

    – first clearing CloudFlare cache fully (and if there is any site/server cache additionally – clear it before clearing CF cache)
    – see if that changes anything
    – if not try disabling all the asset delivery optimization options in CF, then again do clear caches the same way

    Let’s see what happens here – update us once done, please.

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Thank you for looking at this in detail.

    I have LiteSpeed cache server side. I did “Purge all” to the LiteSpeed cache and then purged Cloudflare cache. Opened page in incognito browser window. No change.

    I then disabled Clouflare altogether, deactivated the LiteSpeed plugin and purged Cloudflare again. No change unfortunately.

    I should also add that it does appear to only be some CSS. Because changing the form Design Style does change the form. But changing the form Colors or Fonts does not change the form, it retains the design set by the Theme.

    Hello there @kofukankarateaustralia

    It seems that we will have to review the frontend page directly on your site to share some custom CSS to override what’s needed.

    Can you please share a URL where we could see that form on your site?
    Please advise!

    Thank you,
    Dimitris

    Hi @kofukankarateaustralia

    Thank you for the links, it doesn’t seem the conflict is from the theme, could you try to disable the Modern event calendar plugin and see if makes any difference?

    We would need to find out where the issue is coming from so we can look into the fix.

    Hi Patrick

    I have tried disabling all plugins and enabling Forminator only then enabling others one by one.

    The only two plugins that seem to have any effect on the styling are Elementor and Modern Event Calendar (MEC), but only in a limited way.

    Disabling Elementor results in a lot of my custom blocks and styles disappearing, but does not make the Forminator form CSS show. With only Elementor and Forminator enabled, the form looks just as it does with all other plugins enabled (except MEC as noted below).

    Disabling MEC seems to do just one thing: allows theme default drop-down font.

    • With MEC active: calendar date and regular drop-down field background is transparent with smaller font.
    • With MEC disabled: calendar date and regular drop-down field background is transparent with theme set font.
    • There is no change to other CSS such as button and error text colors.

      Two points to note:

    • when I created my first forminator form (Contact form), it showed the Forminator CSS, not theme CSS. This only disappeared when I re-published the form.
    • I have Restrict Content Pro which has not has its form CSS overridden.
    • Don’t really know where to go from here. Other than force custom CSS in the customizer for the few features I need to change.

    Hi @kofukankarateaustralia,

    It looks like Modern Event Calendar is a premium plugin, as I couldn’t find the same in the WordPress repository. Could you please share a link to the exact plugin so we can try to replicate the issue at our end?

    Kind Regards,
    Nebu John

    Hi Nebu

    MEC registration with www.ads-software.com is currently suspended as explained here:
    https://webnus.net/modern-events-calendar/lite/?ref=17

    MEC was in the plugin list previously. The link above has the download.

    As mentioned before, disabling MEC has limited impact on the form styling (except drop-down font).

    Hi @kofukankarateaustralia

    Thanks for response!

    Actually, since you can confirm that disabling MEC has at least “some” impact (I understand that it’s just partial but it is sort of a “hook point” in a way), may I ask you to do one more test with it?:

    1. disable MEC
    2 re-save form (you can e.g. add some field to it, update it, remove that field and update it again)
    3. clear all cache on site, server and CloudFlare
    4. go to “Elementor -> Tools -> General” page and use “Regenerate files & Data” option to make Elementor regenerate all the dynamic CSS
    5. then clear all cache on site/server/CF again and check the form on front-end again (preferably in incognito tab)

    Is this still the same change (on some elements only) or does the full/expected CSS come back for the form?

    Kind regards,
    Adam

    Hi Adam

    No difference unfortunately.

    1 disabled MEC. 2 resaved the form. 3 cleared Cloudflare cache and Litespeed cache. 4 regenerated Elementor dynamic css. 5 cleared cache again. 6 refreshed form page. 7 viewed in incognito window.

    The impact is the same as simply disabling MEC.

    After not really getting anywhere with this issue, I have put in some CSS into the customizer which at least fixes the specific styling issues that made the form not particularly usable.

    ‘/* Forminator custom CSS */
    .forminator-select-dropdown {
    background-color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 1)!important;
    }
    .forminator-error-message {
    color: #E65F59;
    background-color: #ffcbc9;
    }’

    Just digging for how to make the radio buttons show the dot in the middle…

    Hi @kofukankarateaustralia

    I made again full review of this case and I’m a little bit confused about dropdowns and radio buttons as non of your form have those and your previous threads also do not point to any site now which could contain Forminator form.

    Is there any other form that has those mentioned fields?

    To speed up the process here, please use this form https://wpmudev.com/contact/#i-have-a-different-question and make sure that subject is “I have a different question” and:

    – Mark to my attention: ATTN: Kris

    – Link back to this thread

    so that we will follow up there to check this issue for you.

    Kind Regards,
    Kris
