Thanks. I did some further investigation and discovered this bug was introduced in wordpress 4.5, a recent patch has fixed this and now all looks good.

Conor, would you be able to provide any guidance? The plugin looks great and just what I am looking for but I can’t get past this issue at the moment to really test it out ??
