    Just a quick question. My host reckons that all I need do is download a new fresh version of WordPress and install it and it will overwrite the existing one. Is this correct? Then I change all the passwords and add keys etc …. But he said to leave the database. Bit worried and just checking this.

    Hi Esmi – thanks for response. I had to wait for host to unlock site. I read some of this stuff and although I backed up my data base and Wp-content last week – I don’t think it helps me much, Maybe there’s a backdoor or something lurking in the data base. Seems a bit futile to even do a backup. I am leaning towards going into Cpanel – removing entire site and database. And starting all over again. It is a new site and will take a couple hours to do rather than try and fathom out where things are lurking… My problem came in at the first entry to site – namely at host – forgot to change default password. I am now going to be SUPER careful ad follow ALL the tips here ??

    ThankYou Andrew – you think she has Malware or some setting on Google that’s automatically making links out of phrases?

    Unfortunately the information here is incomplete WPyogi. To backup a site they say I can use Filezilla. I go where it indicates me to if I want to use Filezilla to backup site and there’s a whole lot of random and new info on using Filezilla but nothing specifically on how to back up my WordPress site. I found a tutorial which reckons that I must download Wp-content using Filezilla, which I did. I used a plugin -‘WordPress Database Backup’ to back up my database. I am holding thumbs that this is all good and well? Please tell me if there is more I need to do. Thank you for your response.

    OK – at long last :)I thought the Child theme is a type of backup for the parent – the parent is live and receives all the updates and is in the ‘front’ with the child backing up. I was wrong.

    So when I run updates on the parent does that update the child? How does it work?

    Thank WPyogi

    I made the change to remove ‘proudly powered by wordpress’ in the footer php in my child theme – but it doesn’t change in the parent theme …Is there something I’m missing?

    The manuals and info I read not always clear about how this works. I built my site in Child theme and presume at the end – when I go ‘live’ – I swap the two (activate the Parent) and the Parent is the one everyone sees?

    Thanks Esmi

    (I restored the change I made in Parent theme as you instructed btw)Its back to Proudly powered by WordPress

    Thanks esmi I did yhe change in the parent themes as well. there’s only one thing. I can’t see where to put this in :.site-info {
    text-align: center;
    }

    In the child theme I simply placed it under the ‘import parent theme’ phrase. Where should it go in Parent theme – I appended at the bottom and it just ignored it – may have something wrong. or do I look for this class inthe styles sheet of the parent and make the change? Apologies – am really newbie.
    Thanks again

    I can’t understand why the parent theme is not being affected by the change in the Child theme. Any ideas. Do I have to make the change in the parent footer template manually? Sorry to back this late but I am actually rebuilding the site due to a couple of issues – just saw this now. The header and Proudly powered aren’t changing …in the parent

    Thinking of downloading WordPress again – or maybe posing this problem I’m having in one of the other forums?

    If no help out there I shall try Cyberduck

    Thanks for the advice

    If the issue continues, try an alternative FTP client.

    I did restart – got stuck again with 122 files to go again. What worries me is that I had WordPress uploaded before – by zipping it and extracting in Cpanel. Eventually I picked up a problem with my site – probably unrelated – and I am about to rebuild it (I am a newbie). I am worried about overlooking this or forcing WordPress onto the FTP site and there’s something not right – right at the beginning – (before I even get to mess it up)
