  • OK, I can’t speak for timtom’s problem, but as for mine, it turns out it is indeed related to this other problem I posted about. So see that thread, where I’m about to follow-up.

    Anyone? Any ideas?
Anyway, is there an easier way to test if pings are going out than using Pingomatic’s last 100 page? Has anyone set up a server specifically to test this sort of thing?
I have tried Pingomatic and blo.gs and I see no result there — how can I find out where the hang-up is?

My server admin says “there’s nothing at all in the error logs that appears related to this.” Is there anything specific I should have him look for? I made about 10 test posts this morning; I would think something would show up. (He does, though, say “if you want to figure this out later, let me know and i’ll capture the network traffic and look.” So that’s the next step, I guess.)
Has anyone else run into this?

Well, it’s been going on for a few months already. :/

I’m bumping this up because I’m having the same problem, and I’ve spent a couple nights here trying to figure out what is going on. I’m running 1.2.1, I replaced the missing xmlrpc.php, etc. I have searched this forum like crazy, but haven’t found anything that would fix this.
I don’t know exactly when the pinging broke, since it’s hard to tell when it’s not working, and since Weblogs.com is so flaky I thought at first they were at fault. (I have been pinging Ping-O-Matic, but the one weblog I usually see my pings show up on gets the data from Weblogs.com.) But it was at least a few months ago.
Any ideas why this might be broken? It used to work fine, but since I’m not sure when it broke, I can’t tell what might have changed it.
Are there any web server settings that could affect this? Any permissions settings? Anything? I’m going nuts here.
    Thanks.

Previous post was by me — forgot to log in.

I also had this problem on my mac (the not logging in problem) and this is what was done to fix it:
    1. Tweak some buggy code in wp-login.php (see here for details)
    2. Reset the password hash in phpMyAdmin (see here for instructions on how to do this
    3. Clear the cache and the cookies in Safari. That did the trick.

Yay! Good to know it’s fixed. ??

submo, if you are still getting the e-mail with the empty login when you request a lost password e-mail, as you said here, you you sure you made the code tweak that I mentioned above, the one described at https://www.ads-software.com/support/3/5931#post-17? I ask because I thought that that was the fix for that particular problem.

Have you tried the “lost your password?” e-mail? Try fixing the code in wp-login.php, then have the system send you that e-mail (resetting your password), then try the cookies/cache-clearing. Maybe that will do the trick without resorting to phpMyAdmin.

In my case we had to do three things: tweak some buggy code in wp-login.php (see here for details), then reset the password hash in phpMyAdmin, then clear the cookies after that. I was running Safari, though.
Do you have the problem in both browsers you’ve tried?

I think it was floating calendar that I saw the pumpkins in. Incidentally, when I load the site the default style and the “simple” style appear exactly the same. (In both Safari and Mozilla.) Is that how it is supposed to be?
Oisin, thanks. I actually have purplemosaic slightly hidden. You can access it from a browser that lets you choose from all available styles (like Mozilla) but it’s not shown in the list of themes on the page itself. That’s because it has been superseded by dreamylilac. It was based on the Dots style by Alex King, and I thought the mosaic graphic made it too obvious. ?? I also tweaked it slightly more in the dreamylilac version, subtle changes here and there.
I am thinking of submitting purplemosaic to Alex’s template archive, though.

I went and looked, so you aren’t being ignored, at least. ??
Why does the style called “rightmenu” actually have the menu on the left? I like it, though. I also liked the one with the pumpkins at the top.
I just added two more style sheets to my WP blog — now I have eight. If you want to compare CSS, the page is at https://slumberland.org/. The list of different CSS themes is in the menu bar.

Can you clarify? Is this in place of any current code, or just in addition? Any particular location in the code where it should be added?
    Thanks!

Well, now I’m confused because I *do* see those tags in the RSS. I looked the other day and I swear they weren’t there. ?? LJ appears to be grabbing the “description” part of the RSS instead of the “content:encoded”… any insight into this?
