Thank you James, upon further digging we were not able to locate a IP, however, did isolate that the emails were not authentic but scams.

Thank you for the link regarding protecting from comment spam. We have some measures in place but will be sure to look into whether we have them all.

We’ve had some advise to install an SSL on our site to give us some further protection. Is there a specific SSL that you would suggest?

Brittrunyon, I’m not the most qualified to answer your questions but I will do my best.

When people say, FTP in, it means “uploading and/or managing” your site files through an FTP client. An FTP client is a piece of software that allows you to log into the server hosting your site and manage your website file manually. There are lots of free and paid FTP Clients out there to use (Windows: SmartFTP, FileZilla etc Mac: Fetch, Transport etc)

An FTP client would let you upload the provided “fix” file to your website. If you’ve never done this before, I would suggest you contact the company that is hosting your site for you and ask for assistance from them.

A good question I think that should be asked, how did you first load the WordPress software onto your site? Was it through services provide by server company who is hosting your site? If so, if you check with them, they might have services that will help you upload this the new ‘fixed” theme to your site.

The .old resolution didn’t work for me. But I’m so glad that it worked for others.

My resolution: I contacted my Server Host and requested that they restore the site from their latest back up. The did and the site was back up. There was a minor issue that resulted from this backup restore but the Server Host staff fixed that quickly and we are back to WordPress 4.3.1 and all is working.

On another thread, there was a suggestion to update the Sliding Door theme that I might test. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/cant-access-site-or-admin-fatal-error?replies=10

I’ve not attempted this yet but will later. I have made sure to back up my public_html file first this time.

Thanks willpirkle! I might give this a try.

I’m not hopeful that the creators of Sliding Door will fix the problem. I found out after I had totally built my site with their theme that they had stopped all communication and support for the them several years ago.

This sadly gave me no resolution. I’m VERY glad to hear that it worked for some.

The answer for me was to contact my Server Host and ask if they could restore the site to the last previous backup that they had. They did that. We had to fix a few issues that occurred during the back up restore process but my site is back up and allowing me full access.

Unless this is an issue WordPress finds worth fixing, I suppose I will have to start the process of looking for a new theme.

If anyone knows of a theme, paid or not that is similar to the sliding door them, I would appreciate that information.

Thank you csonnek for getting back to me. I’ve been to https://jetpack.me/contact-support/ but the contact options are limited as the page states that the tech support will be unavailable until Oct 21.

I have no problem sharing the url with you as it is a public site:

    https://www.westofmilton.com

Once again, I do know that the xmlrpc.php file has been locked down by my host, as stated this has been done to protect from the brute force attacks than forced a rebuild of the site.
