thanks mike. actually i have checked the box that says that I’m to moderate each comment before it gets published. now recently i’ve gotten spam karma installed. do you think this plug-in affects how some of the comments are published without being moderated?

So I checked out my plug-in section and found out that I already have Askimet- it came with my wordpress. i just went and activated it. Thanks guys!

..And I just wanted to add that some of the people who sent comments appear to be having a conversation with someone else in their postings…not me…don’t know what that’s about.
