In reply to: Moving from Joomla to WordPressYou can build your new WordPress website in HostGator in a sub folder if you are happy with them for hosting. Simply point your domain to this new sub folder when development is finished. During development, you will access your Dashboard: https://yourdomainname/sub-folder/wp-admin
Otherwise, set up your new hosting and build your new WordPress website. You will access the dashboard of the new website by IP address. Ex: https://youripaddress/wp-admin
After you finish developing your website, you will need to point your domain name to the new server IP address (or sub-folder if you went that route). Install Go Live Update URLS to change your WordPress site links to your main domain address. And update the site URL to your domain name.
It takes some time for the domain to propagate, so your new website may be down for an hour or two. I have been lucky in the past where my sites flip over in a few minutes. It all depends on the hosting/domain registration company.

In reply to: Student Managment adviceThere are two plugins that may work together for you. Both are paid options on Envato but worth looking into.
WPLMS – WordPress Learning Management Systems. I have used this on one of my client websites and it allows you to set up courses, students and teachers. Teachers can even add their own curriculum and content. Students can track their progress. The teachers can also see who has completed the assignments.
The other plugin is “School Management System for WordPress” and it acts as a student information system. It allows attendance, teacher, student and parent pages to track progress.
I switched to Paypal Express Checkout and it works now.
