In reply to: Quick web search, widget or embed?Hi, thanks for responding. Perhaps its something this guy invented years ago, because he doesn’t respond.
I site suckered it to look at the js files but it looks like its a specialist google search he’s created and has his google id etc in it linked to that .io website/
Is there any other way to embed in a site other than iframe. as I all I want is the search and answer form. I know how to iframe a given section of a page, but its all a bit ugly

In reply to: Some Images only show on site if logged in as adminI did everything I could, and used the sherlock holmes method of ruling out everything and whatever was left however improbable was th answer. I tracked it down to two lines in htaccess file that appeared to be a left over from a plugin I had tried but removed. At the same time as this I discovered areas of the database that had been altered by plugins I had tried that had been altered but then not put back when the plugin was removed.
I now have things working as well as i could have hoped after trimming my htaccess files via ftp

In reply to: importing XML file overwrites database. You are right, found it, I think, a remnant of a yootheme i tried out years ago, called balance, left a widget plugin hidden away, that i had never even noticed.
Each time i Imported it tried to create the balance theme again, which I couldn’t remember using, and renamed my site Balance. As well as importing everything form the xml file and overwriting my Db: posts categories, pages etc.
My fear now is that is not the only thing, and that some other Yoo crap is hiding out.

In reply to: A Directory theme – for listing professionalslook at this:
https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk part of a suit of directories from these people:horrible design but it does it, I wonder what the engine is that is running it?

In reply to: A Directory theme – for listing professionalsI never came back to post as I the notify post must have gone to junk for some reason.
I would love to try the directory plugin, but like some of the directory themes, buy first then find out its not what you need.
There has to be a way of building in a timeout so its usable for a month and then you have to pay and you can discard if you dont want it.
Alot of directory themes are great if you want a list of cars, but not as a site where each entry is a person and has an editable page/post

In reply to: ftp plugins and permissions gone awryI went to my web host and got them to change all back to the default settings and this mainly fixed it. I had to do a little manual tweaking also on chmod for ownership as Amy suggests

In reply to: [WP Bannerize] Update ruins wp-bannerize, ruins websitewhat happens when i upgrade now is all the banners are gone from the plugin, still in the Db, because when i restore the old plugin they are all back.
I don’t really use it for ads, just to place images with links to articles and information
