In reply to: WP 5.0.1 ‘publishing failed’seems everyone has a different solution, as long as something worked for them. I did find my solution here:
I am using a synology box and ngix as the default web server. On one box wordpress works, on the other it doesn’t. Didn’t quite get why, but switching both to apache did solve the issue for one.
The other was more stubborn. The wordpress site WORKED, it was visible, but I couldn’t add any posts.
It was reading the post regarding permalinks that reminded me, there was(/is?) an issue that until you change the permalinks, the .htaccess file hasn’t been updated/written. Once I updateds the permalink and change it from day/date to something else and saved it, and then changed it back, it worked for me!

In reply to: [Exec-PHP] Request to take over maintainershipThis should only be handed over to an experienced maintainer. Not someone who created an account to make this request!

In reply to: [Storefront] Is there a better way of doing this? How did you end up going with this, I’ll give you a hand to try and set this up for you. It’s probably just a matter of lining up the media queries with what you expect to see.
How are you testing?
I don’t want to teach you to suck eggs, but do you know how to use the dev tools in chrome and view the page in different resolutions so that you can tweak the media queries?

In reply to: [Akismet Anti-spam: Spam Protection] debug array dropped into error logCan’t edit the post (stupid rule for precisely this reason), I’ll have to go thru and change it. Thanks for letting me know.
Cheers.

In reply to: [Multi Plugin Installer] not sufficient permissionsI wouldn’t really call that a conflict since by design a security plugin is there to help you against malicious changes. There are several security plugins that make this change. It can be an annoying change but a valuable one too.
Unless the page itself is the result of having edited a file or requiring some permission change related to files, then it is unlikely that it is the only or major culprit.
It’s good you’ve pointed it out and something to look at in the future, but I’ve been having this problem for YEARS. And touch wood, none recently. It almost ALWAYS is plugin related, and for me it’s never been a security plugin. (I’ve only been using one for less than a year and have had this problem since way before then).

In reply to: [Twenty Sixteen] Failed to Embed ErrorI just thought I would add. I didn’t know about this new feature of 4.4, so I thought I would go and test it.
I have created a dummy page and backdated it a year (to take it from my front screen) and linked it to another post and it works as predicted.
The test page with embed link:
https://dav3.net/2170/Which shows page:
https://dav3.net/519/All I have in the page editor is the url without embed ticks:

In reply to: [Twenty Sixteen] Failed to Embed ErrorOut of curiosity, just enter some text ABOVE the embed line, anything (but more than a period ‘.’). Just write a short line, something like “here is a page I wrote earlier:” and paste your embed on the next line. Let me know how you go.
I think you know this, but what embed tags were you using? Square braces ‘[‘ ‘]’ or greater/less than signs ‘<‘ ‘>’?

In reply to: use referrer to populate search queryWell, that would explain the absence of plugins to do what I was after!
I never realised they did it, or stopped doing it as th case apparently is.
I’m sure I’ve seen SOME search data in my logs, but if the majority of it’s not going to be included, then I don’t see any point.
I’ll check the logs more closely when I get home, but that’s disappointing
/scratches that plugin off my list of plugins I can write ??

In reply to: [Speedy Page Redirect] multisite extensionI’m going through playing with my redirects again, and was again thinking to myself how helpful an admin page would be for this.

In reply to: understanding template hierarchyit’s sometimes the simple statements that bring home a point.
Thanks very much shadez.
Is this something that’s going to be looked at?
ie,
1) having a list of banned usernames that can get immediate rejection, and
2) ban the IPs across all sites in a multisite

In reply to: [Link Manager] Links not appearing in the dashboardThis was never a “link-manager” issue, but I finally resolved this a few weeks ago. It was another plugin that did it. Removed the plugin and links are back to normal.
For anyone interested, it was this plug-in: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/advanced-category-excluder/
