I’ve used Geo Mashup with Pods. That plugin has this reverse geocode lookup feature, which you can build from other fields. I’ll have an example up soon, but I figured I would point ya in that direction, fringer.

You can see which classes are added by looking at the output. Create the shortcode with all the content you want (title, date and excerpt), and then look at the code it generates. From there you should be able to choose your CSS selectors.

Thanks for the encouragement. I want to say that I know how difficult it is to get through the deluge of messages from folks that honestly won’t even read the docs first, and just want someone to build their site for them. I also think that Pods is where its at, and I know in the last year I’ve been playing with it, it has gotten more polish in each release. ^_^

Scott, do you know of documentation or tutorials that lay out using CPTs without Pod Pages? I’ve seen it advised often, but I don’t know the first place to start. If I could get a high-level overview I could probably figure it out from there. One problem it might solve is the one in this thread, where the short URLs aren’t showing on the Pod Page template I created.

@scott, I’ve been hesitant to answer, because there is an adversarial tone taken towards non-coders in the Pods forums. I’ve pieced together enough from the various tutorials around to figure out how to show my content using Pod Pages. I don’t know how to do it any other way, and every time someone asks they are told that they need to do the coding themselves.

I’m not a coder, but I like Pods over the other custom field plugins, it is the closest to CCK + Views in Drupal, which I understand really well, so I’ve just kinda hacked at it. I’ve read all the new docs, but I still can’t figure out how to do it without Pod Pages and Templates.

Scott, I am using a CPT, and using Pod Pages for the URLs. I have a template showing pod content.

Wasn’t expecting you to show up. Any ideas on this? ^_^

Yes, I am sure that Pods and bbPress does. They have shortened URLs created for them. It is just an issue of them not showing up as they do on posts and pages, with the boxes checked in the plugin’s configuration.

In the parameters there is a section entitled Where to display the short URL?. None of those options show the short URL on bbPress pages or Pods custom post types.

I do not see what is the link with the loop ??

I thought that might help you debug that. The checkbox for custom type articles don’t show when I use the Pods template, and the only difference is that it doesn’t have a loop in it. If that is not the case, do you know why it isn’t working?

There are checkboxes, for showing the shortcode on the posts, pages and custom type article. The custom type article isn’t working on bbPress topics, or the Pods custom post types (Pods doesn’t use the loop when showing templates).

For the project I am working on, I am making a theme and can just use get_short_link() and see if that works, but you may have another way to show the URL.

I have the beta plugin you sent me working on a development site. Seems to be working fine. Took me a bit to figure out what the CPTs were called in bbPress: forum, topic, reply.

One thing that I could use help on, is figuring out how to show the short links on the forum posts. They are obviously not loading whichever hook you use on normal posts. Additionally, my other custom post types don’t even use the loop. I am planning on adding the link at the theme level, but is there something I can do to make it show up with the option in the plugin?

    Sure! ^_^

What is it doing with a category that doesn’t have posts? Is it showing empty list items or something?

    I’m also having this issue.

    [dfads params='groups=1048&limit=1&orderby=random&return_javascript=1']

If I show two items, both my ads show up. If I order it differently so the other ad is first, it will only show that single ad.

    Any ideas?

Alex, don’t mind Denis. You made it clear in your post about the support this would get, and your answer was empowering. One hopes that an open project will get folks involved that want to add features, so here’s to more folks discussing features they would like, and less calling you unprofessional. ^_^

Thanks, I hadn’t realized that was in HTML now, use to the JavaScript making it disappear. To further complicate it, I think that Firefox may deal with color on the placeholder differently, as it looks fine in Chromium. Not sure how to handle that, since Mozilla might fix it, and the style WordPress applies is probably correct.

Anyhow, that aside, I do have a suggestion. I don’t think the placeholder text is particularly useful. I am conflicted on suggesting an alternative, because in a way I think this is a complex plugin and folks using it should catch ubiquitous design patterns. It should probably have little blurbs explaining those fields though, at least for the Root Site Name.

I will think about this, and if anything occurs to me I will suggest it. Thanks. ^_^
