Thanks so very much for hanging in there with me on this! A friend is checking with another service she uses, so I’m happy to have some options. I still blame HostMonster, but am curious what caused the actual problem. Would you like me to report back on that?

I was going to attach a screenshot of my File Manager from HostMonster showing backups, but I can’t even figure out how to do that here, so maybe that’s not allowed. But all it shows there are a few from 2016. When I make a backup using WP EZ Backup (I think that’s the name) plugin, where do those backups go? I’ve made all of those within the last month (last time I updated any page), so what happened to them?

That was exactly my thought and told them so. But they said that if it was server side, that all my sites (even the 2 remaining html ones) would also be affected and they’re not. Since it’s just the WordPress ones is why they told me to ask for help here.

I asked her about where my backups are and she said something about that would only be of the parent site and from what I could see from the back end, that’s all that was there – the WordPress backups, but nothing that I’ve backed up recently. She said that’s another reason I had to get with WordPress, too.

I’m so confused and it’s almost more than I can bear to think all those hundreds of pages and years of memories are gone, when I did back everything up the way I thought I should, but now it’s not doing me any good. HostMonster made it clear they can’t help anymore and that I did need a WordPress expert and that’s why they suggested I start here.

I know I’m not capable of doing this on my own. Do you know of a WordPress expert that can help me with this? I’m going back to HostMonster and complain again since even WordPress is saying it’s server related!

First, I went in and found my Error Log. But it is massive and I have no idea what any of it means. It says “The MAIN error_log is a shared log meaning that errors from all websites hosted on the server will be displayed as well as those for your website, be sure to reference your IP when searching this log.” I searched for what they said my current IP address is and it didn’t come up with anything.

I got with Host Monster again and they showed me how to get into the “back door” and see my File Manager since I can’t even do that in the normal way. But from what I can tell from this, that looks like mostly my old html sites (which is how this site originally started, but then became WordPress in 2013). There are some old html pages there, though, that I used to be able to access, but no more.

You suggested disabling plugins and using default theme, but the tech at HostMonster said he did all of that and everything else he could think of. They’re basically telling me they can’t help me anymore and I need to contact my developer. I am trying that, but it was years ago, someone I didn’t know personally and the last time I tried to email him, it was returned. These sites are just labors of love for me to remember my 16 years of travel. They don’t generate income and I can’t afford to hire a developer to see if it’s even possible to retrieve anything. I’m still trying, but I’m so freaked out and stressed right now, it’s hard to even think straight.

Is it even possible or too much to ask for that it’s a temporary glitch in WordPress and it may be resolved at some point? It’s just too strange that all 3 sites went down at the same time!

Thanks for your reply. I found out I needed to switch from Ultimate Tiny MCE to WP Edit, and whatever that did, I can now insert table from the toolbar. I’m actually not sure if that’s Easy Table or what, but at least I can do it now. Like I said, I only have really basic knowledge of this so far. ??

Lorro, I’m more or less a novice and don’t even know what a shortcode is, so if I did that, it was strictly by mistake. But even that doesn’t make sense because just copying and creating another post with the same stuff worked (exactly as Kevin outlined), so I’m really grateful for this forum and your responses!
