I get your point though. Thanks for telling me I wasn’t just missing something simple. Guess I’ll just have to live with a category prefix of “c” or something.

the closest I’ve found so far is https://www.watershedstudio.com/portfolio/software/wp-versioning.html and https://rephrase.net/days/05/04/post-versioning but they haven’t been touched in a year and half so I’m reluctant to use them. Anyone have anything newer?

Oh! in a closely related thread[0] , Podz pointed out that by clicking on the “Member” link underneath your username you can get a list of all the threads you have participated in. Very handy!
Suggestion: add a “your statistics” link to the right hand menu which points to this same screen.

all point towards a permissions problem.
I tried setting the permissions again, to 755, taking care to include all wp-content files and subdirectories and this time it *did* fix things. I must have missed one last time.

404 means page not found, which makes it sound like a configuration issue. I am by no means an expert, but I have managed to make a couple of posts using w.bloggar. I’ve since stopped using it though because it seemed to not get the Categories right all the time and I’ve been wanting to use the Markdown plugin which wb doesn’t support.

Being somewhere between an average user and a geek, I am comfortable using phpmyadmin to backup and restore the WP database. However I’d still really like to see something like Stoofa described for phpBB, largely because it would be more convenient.
I’m using WP in the first place because of its famous 30 second install. There are a variety of other tools out there with similar functionality, and some of them have installation procedures which aren’t *that* much work. None that I’ve looked at though are as _convenient_ as WP. ??
I should have to install WP only once or twice at most, backup and restore though will happen much more often. So in my mind, having a 30 second backup/restore feature in WordPress is perfectly in line with its core goals.

…so now I’m going to drop the tables and start over.

I tried deleting all files and re-uploading. I still get the login page instead of the install page when going to wordpress/wp-admin .
Can phpmyadmin be installed on a server where I don’t have shell access?
