Are you sure you removed both the Web Push and the Add to Home Screen plugin, then removed the manifest file from the uploads directory, then reinstalled the Web Push plugin?

There’s a note in the plugin’s description page:

N.B.: This plugin requires your website to be served via HTTPS. Indeed, for security reasons, browsers enforce the HTTPS policy for the Push API and for Service Workers.

It isn’t possible to use the Push API without HTTPS. It is a limitation of all browsers.

You can send a custom notification in the ‘Send a custom push notification’ page in the Tools section (wp-admin/tools.php?page=web-push-tools).

Do you want to ask permission to send notifications to the user as soon as he visits the site?
It is possible, you just need to modify the “Automatic prompting” option. Note that it is highly unsuggested to do this, because most users will dismiss the prompt if it appears as soon as the page is loaded even if they didn’t do anything.

Can you think about a version where the user can select groups (post groups preselected from admin) to push just the messages he is interested in (for example sports or/and politics)…

In the future I’ll probably add a way for users to select which categories they’re interested in.

Version 1.4.0 should finally fix your problem.

We’ve managed to resolve the problem in the linked GitHub issue.
The Google documentation is outdated, so it makes adding the project number confusing.

I think I’ve finally figured out what the issue is (I’ve also been able to reproduce it locally, so this is likely the same issue you’re seeing).

I’ll publish a fix tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.

Could you try updating to version 1.2.2?

In the new version, if you disable notifications on updates, notifications are sent only once for each post (even if there are multiple status transitions, which one of your plugins might be causing).
