OK, I solved question 1 regarding size by using Firebug to minimise the size of the page title, but how do I REMOVE it altogether?

The character was a Byte Order Mark “a Microsoft invention to tell, in a Unicode file, in which order multi-byte characters are stored.

To get rid of it, tell your editor to save the file either as ANSI/ISO-8859 or as Unicode without BOM”.

To do this in Notepad++ go Format > Convert to UTF-8 without BOM then Format > Encode in UTF-8 without BOM.

Oh, and I have checked the white spaces in all the PHP files, just as the thread here suggests:

OK, I no wcopied all my images to the wp-content folder, and checked that the path from the front-end is exactly the same.

Some images showed up, but not all – ideas?

Additional: A new issue in WordPress 2.6 occurs when you have a custom directory for file uploads. The upload will work, but the link/thumbnail link will be wrong and so the image won’t appear. This is a bug which can be fixed in one of two ways (either works):
a) Specify the correct URL to the upload directory in the “optional” field just below the custom image path field.
b) There’s a new wp-includes/functions.php which will eliminate the issue. Download it and replace your existing wp-includes/functions.php file with it.

I toggled the “Use the visual editor when writing” tick box and it changed nothing.

The rulers I mean are indeed the WYSIWYG icons….
