This is not a problem about where the image comes from. It is some default setting in Ultimate Member that only allows landscape-oriented images to be uploaded as a profile cover image. If you try to use an image that is in the portrait-oriented position (taller than it is wide) it won’t let you.
I know because it also happens to me and 1) All my software and plugins are up to date. 2) No – there are no conflicts. I have done that test. 3) Several people, using different laptops have tried to do this and had the same issue. 4) I have tried it with the image from my laptop and also tried it from my iPhone. 5) I have tried going into the UM uploads settings and changing them around – no luck. 6) This happens in Google Chrome, Safri, and IE so it is NOT a browser issue. 7) I believe it is a default setting in the plugin – not a user error.
I am the website administrator and have been using Ultimate Member for years. I have just never had anyone want to use a profile cover image that is taller than it is wide (portrait-oriented)
If you can tell me how to upload screenshots to the support forum I can do so.
I am now using a spam catcher – it is working:
“WP-SpamShield has blocked 15,516 spam! That’s 239 spam a day”
Here is more information on this issue. It happened again to me yesterday and today. I run very few plugins and yes, I have the latest version of Askimet as well as all the rest of my plugins and site is at the latest version.
I am running Ultimate Member for my club’s membership website. It is very disturbing as all registrations should be going through that and then get held as a pending member. What is disturbing is that I have member’s information on the site, only viewable to those members who are actual “Members”, not pending members.
This spam issue bypasses that protection. Normally, a new member registers and I get an email that there is a pending member waiting for approval. I then physically approve them and change their status from PENDING to MEMBER. These spammers are able to bypass that protection and register directly as members – giving them access to all “Members Only” content.
It seems to work just fine on Linux servers. Have now installed on 2 with no problems. The site it doesn’t work on is on a Windows 2008 server.
I updated to 1.3.58. Still the same problem. I originally had another membership program running so I deleted that plugin folder off the server, deleted all the pages it created and just for fun deleted my menu. Still the same problem.
I installed UM on another website and it works fine. Could it be a remnant of the old program creating a problem? I FTPed the working UM folder to the error-infested website and overwrote all the files. Still have the errors when I hit activate.
I have even restored from a very early version with no membership plugins. Same issue.
I have tried uploading the plugin instead of installing it.
Don’t really care why it happened – would just like to fix it so I can use it.
Thanks for any help you can suggest.
The update is not there yet. Can I get it another way? And when the update is available would I delete UM and reinstall it?
GoDaddy. I’ll check for the update. Thanks.
I have had the same thing happen to me except that it was in content\plugins\ultimate-member\core\um-filters-members.php. Yesterday when I tried to activate the program it completely froze my system and I had to restore from a recent backup.
Today I was able to at least activate the program but received these 3 warnings. The first one at the top of the UM page and the other two at the bottom. I have all the current updates and am running UM Version 1.3.54.
Here are the errors:
