Ha! While I was writing the above, I was going through the motions again and after I posted I decided to click on it again. Everything went through, said I only needed to update jetpack and the banner disappeared. Magic.

Yes, as it shows in the host files as well, but in the wp admin dashboard at the top is a yellow banner that says: An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.

If I click on that banner it takes me to the update screen where it prompts me to update to 3.6. If I do, it gives me a 500 error. How do I get rid of the yellow error banner?
