In reply to: [VS Meta Description] Improper HTML in version 3.1Yes, I did set an excerpt for the post. What I think you are seeing in the sample above is the excerpt complete with the “continue reading” link that would appear with the excerpt on an archive page.
@kitchen — At the time of yesterday’s incident, my site was using WP Super Cache, which is not the same as W3 Total Cache.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Email LogoIf I could offer a follow-up suggestion, it would be helpful for branding purposes to be able to alter the color scheme of the email also.
Perhaps there could be a function similar to the customizer in which color values can be set and a logo uploaded, along with a mockup showing how the resulting email will look.
Jeremy, it’s difficult to say with certainty what happened. After I FTP-deleted the Jetpack folder, there was no change. Likewise, after deleting all the remaining plugin folders, there was no immediate change, but within about ten minutes, I stopped getting the “redirected too many times” error and was able to see my site (incomplete without the plugins) and log onto the admin back end. After that, I reinstalled my plugins one by one until the site was back to normal operation. That’s the best account of events that I can offer.
Update: Now my site is partially working. The redirect error is gone and I can log into the WP admin backend.
Here are some things I have tried to solve the problem, without success:
- Via FTP, deleted the Jetpack folder
- Deleted ALL my plugin folders
Nothing has worked and my site is not working correctly and my readers are unhappy and I’m losing advertising money. The last time this error occurred, Jetpack was at fault, and I’m very unhappy to find myself dependent on this unstable plugin for so many features on my site.

Update: I updated my WordPress.com account profile with my website’s current domain, and this didn’t change the situation. I disconnected Jetpack, then saw the error message “transport error – HTTP status code was not 200 (502)” after trying to reconnect.
However, when I returned to my site, it was clear that Jetpack did indeed connect successfully.
I need to stress that this doesn’t cause any practical problems for me. I filed this report mainly because it might shed light on any problems others may have.

OK, I have done this.
It occurred to me just now that this issue may stem from the fact that I changed the main domain name for my site, and I have a redirect in my .htaccess file from the former domain to the new one. Jetpack may be trying to connect at the older address, which may still be in my WordPress account.

In reply to: [VS Meta Description] Improper HTML in version 3.1I just upgraded to version 3.2 of this plugin and the problem still persists.

Unfortunately, I can’t show you which comments are missing from the notifications icon list because that list appears to show comments from only the last few days before displaying “The End” at the bottom. I would have to be able to go back further than that.
All I can say is that there are some periods when the notification icon (the orange speech bubble) fails to light up when there are new comments, and any comments left during that period will not appear in the drop-down list, even after the icon starts working again.
An update on this issue: After not working most of the morning and early afternoon (EST), Publicize and Email Notifications started working correctly again around 2:30 pm EST.
However, it may have failed again briefly between 4:30 pm and 5:30pm EST.
I’ve discovered a way to predict when Publicize and Email Notifications will fail. If the drop down Comment Notifications list (the orange icon) is missing recent comments that appear in the Comments tab, then Publicize and Email Notifications will not work, either.
I don’t think that we can fix this issue on our ends. The Publicize and Email Notification functions seem to depend upon Jetpack and its servers at www.ads-software.com. Sometimes this system just seems to not work, even though Jetpack’s debug function shows that my site is properly connected with no errors.
These outages affect three Jetpack functions: Publicize, Email Notifications, and the Notification icon in the admin taskbar. They always fail together.

In reply to: [Jetpack - WP Security, Backup, Speed, & Growth] Publicize Not Working AgainAs of today, my results with Publicize and Email Notifications have been mixed. I published a post this morning that did not get posted to Facebook and Twitter, and also didn’t send an email notification. About two hours later, I published a different post and both Publicize and Email Notifications worked correctly.
In both cases, I didn’t schedule the posts, but rather pressed the “Publish” button.
Andrew, when you disconnected and reconnected Jetpack, did you see any error messages like the kind I describe in this message?
