    Hey Khumii,

    I’m definitely happy to take a look and see what’s up. Would you be able to pass us a link to your site so we can see what happens when attempting to use the form? One initial possibility is that something on the site is conflicting with the plugin’s Javascript support. Trying to change the “Use Javascript support?” preference under List Options and saving that change can help determine if the issue lies with Javascript support or with CSS settings.

    I look forward to hearing back from you!

    Hey stock134!

    Thanks for getting in touch. The button color can be customized by editing the CSS of your theme in your site. Adding this would make the button’s text color black and the button itself white, for example:

    #mc_signup_submit {
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFFFFF;
    background-image: none;

    }

    Changing the color codes used for the color and background-color lines would let you change the colors as desired.

    If we can help with anything else, let us know!

    Hey Michael,

    While we’d really love to assist further, in this case it appears something in the plugin is blocking the necessary traffic and we wouldn’t be able to find what the particular configuration element in that plugin is. We can help with relating to what the traffic itself is that needs to be allowed, but our ability to assist with how to get that enabled is a bit limited.

    If you do have any other questions we might be able to answer, please feel free to ask. We’ll be glad to offer any details we can.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    Hey brio39,

    Thanks for the link!

    After taking a look, it appears the issue is because the shortcode for the form is in the page within a <pre> and <code> tag.

    So it’s effectively looking like this:

    <pre>
    <code>
    [mailchimpsf_form]
    </code>
    </pre>

    Being contained within those <code> and <pre> tags seems to be throwing things off. As a fix, if you can edit the content area in WordPress and make sure to click on the “text” tab in the page while editing content in order to remove everything and have only the shortcode present as plain text, that should do the trick if those tags are being added within your editable content area. Removing those tags is key. Once they’re gone, things will condense back to normal!

    Hey there nikhilap.it

    Thanks for getting in touch. During which step in the plugin’s setup process did you see this error? This can sometimes occur if incoming connections aren’t allowed on the server. Specifically, if you can whitelist 50.97.194.22 (the IP address used to connect to MailChimp via the plugin) and make sure you can connect to sopresto.socialize-this.com from your server, does that help?

    If you continue to have issues, please let us know any details!

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    Oops! I meant to say to check for whitelisting *incoming* connections, as well, since the error appears to be occurring when posting to your domain.

    Hey Rita! I’m glad that helped!

    Lee, that code should work when placed directly in the css file for your theme, unless some CSS from elsewhere is overriding it.

    Specifically:
    https://yourwordpressinstall.com/path/wp-content/themes/yourtheme/style.css

    That said, if you’d like we can take a look at your site itself for you. Because this thread has already been resolved, if you’d like us to take a look please feel free to start a new thread (with perhaps a link to this one) and the address of your website. We’ll be glad to at least take a look!

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    Hey Michael,

    Thanks for getting back to us. After looking through available documentation, we weren’t able to determine how best to troubleshoot a blocked outgoing connection within the ‘All In One WP Security and Firewall’ plugin. We recommend checking out that plugin’s support page to see if they can suggest how best to whitelist outgoing connections to 50.97.194.22 and sopresto.socialize-this.com

    Successful outgoing connections to that IP and URL should do the trick.

    That plugin’s support forum is here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall

    Thanks,

    Hey wpkoenen,

    Thanks for getting in touch. While it may be possible to get the setup you’re looking for by heavily customizing CSS code in your site, that could take a good bit of customization that may be easier to accomplish by using the MailChimp Embedded code instead. This guide shows how to retrieve that code from within your MailChimp account, and in the options shown the “Super Slim” form offers a way to bring in just the email address and submit button:
    How can I add my signup form to my website?: https://eepurl.com/gOGN

    Trying to set things up using the plugin would require some custom CSS to be added to your WordPress theme’s style.css file after unchecking all fields other than the email address . A starting point for the CSS would be to try adding:

    .mc_signup_submit {
    float: right;
    width: 200px;
    }

    (with the width customized as you wish) to get the button to float to the right of the specified display area) as well as

    .mc_merge_var {
    float: left;
    width:200px;
    }

    There’ll still need to be a lot of tweaking done, but that’ll get the button aligned to the right of the field area, and if you have only one field set to display that’ll get things mostly in line.

    If you have other questions, please feel free to get in touch.

    Hey Rita!

    Thanks for writing in. That CSS ID can be used within your theme’s CSS file in order to customize the text and background colors of the button. Finding your WordPress theme’s CSS file and adding this to it, while changing the values for the colors, should do the trick:

    #mc_signup_submit {
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ffffff;
    background-image: none;
    border: 1px solid #d2d2d2;
    }

    There, color is used for text color and background-color is the color of the button itself. background-image is used to turn off the gradient that’s used by default instead of the stated background color and border can be modified to change the width, style, and color of the border of the button.

    That should do the trick for you!

    Hey JrBro,

    Thanks for the link! I was able to look at the page and see what’s up. It’s important to note that because this is a field getting submitted to MailChimp as a text value, the values it can accept are limited in length to 255 characters. Additionally, because the field itself is a “text” field in the form, it’s generally made to accept a single line of text. Because of that, a vertical alignment option wouldn’t work. To emulate that effect, however, you can add some padding to the field like this:

    #mc_mv_MMERGE2 {
    height: 100px;
    padding: 0 0 80px 5px;
    }

    That should do the trick for you,
    Gabe

    Hey male_overhaul,

    Thanks for getting in touch. The confirmation email’s formatting can be set up within the MailChimp account itself. If you head in your account to Lists > the list name > Signup forms > General form, you’ll be at the signup form builder. On that screen you can then select which form or related email (such as confirmation emails) to customize, and then proceed to change the contents as desired.

    For the second question, what do you mean by the default form info? By default, fields aren’t populated in MailChimp, though you can set Help Text and default values for a particular field to be used within campaigns if someone has an empty value for a field. (You can also change your fields to be required from here.) All of those changes, as well as adding new fields and changing their order, can be made from the form builder screen I mentioned.

    For more support regarding the forms in general, rather than specifically getting the WordPress plugin working, I recommend checking out our knowledge base or getting in touch with our general support team via chat or email, all from this page: https://kb.mailchimp.com/chat

    Thanks,

    Hey JrBro,

    Thanks for getting in touch. Each field in the form will have an id associated with it based on the merge tag it uses in your MailChimp list. It will be #mc_mv_MERGE, where MERGE is replaced with the actual merge tag. So, for example, the default first name field in a list will get a CSS id for its input field of #mc_mv_FNAME.

    If you then put CSS like this in your theme’s style.css file, it would let you customize the height of the particular field:

    #mc_mv_FNAME {
    	height:35px;
    }

    That should do the trick for you,
    Gabe

    Hey ivywicked,

    I tried out your plugin form in the sidebar on the site and that resulted in my receiving a confirmation email as expected. I also received the “Success, you’ve been signed up! Please look for our confirmation email!” message within the page as expected.

    Is the plugin still giving you issues? If you try submitting to it using multiple browsers, do you see different behavior?

    Thanks,
    Gabe

    Hey Kebo,

    Thanks for letting us know things are working. It’s possible with the intermittent issues that this could be related to caching of the WordPress site via a plugin. If you see the issue crop up again and have any plugins installed to the site which cache the home page, you may want to try disabling the page caching to see if that’s what is causing the issue.

    Andrew,
    We investigated your site a bit and so far haven’t been able to find specifics as to the behavior being seen there. Would you be able to try disabling other plugins and then attempting submission via the MailChimp form? If that works, you could then re-enable them one by one in order to see which plugin seems to be intefering. If you can let us know what results you see in testing with this approach, we’ll see what else we can think of.

    Thanks,
    Gabe
