I contacted Siteground support and they said they keep backups for 30 days at which point they are terminated. Unfortunately, it’s been 50 days so it’s gone.

Thank you very much for the wayback machine link. With that, I’ve been able to access 90% of my content (which was all the evergreen content) and save it in my files. If I’m going to rebuild the site, that will be invaluable.

I figured it out. I was able to acquire FTP login information and logged in to FileZilla. There was a backup favicon file named bak.favicon.ico which I deleted and uploaded my own favicon.ico file.

This immediately updated the favicon on Chrome.

24 hours later and Chrome stills shows the hostgator alligator icon. Would Chrome really take this much longer to update than other browsers?

I couldn’t figure out how to delete the favicon.ico file myself but had hostgator support do it for me. Now that file is blank.

I downloaded and installed Filezilla but couldn’t figure out how to actually login. The login information hostgator provided did not work.

I changed the green man icon to a purple man icon to test and it immediately updated on the back-end. On someone else’s internet explorer it immediately updated but both my Chrome and other person’s Chrome still show hostgator alligator favicon.

I will see tomorrow if Chrome has updated.

sterndata – How do I open site via FTP? I could not find the file in hostgator.

ThemeSumo – The green favicon is the new image that I uploaded. I previously cleared my browser cache (Chrome) and it did not update. I am using a different computer now and just did the refresh and cleared browser cache (Chrome) and it still did not updated. However, it did update for Internet Explorer (before it showed the IE icon).

Why would it show on your end and on my Internet Explorer but not my Chrome?
