  • I ran into a problem like this a while ago, and got rid of a “Wall” plugin that allowed anyone to post a comment. I haven’t had the problem since.

I’m having the same problem, with the entire CSS file appearing as the theme name. I’ve been searching the forum and Google for an hour or so but can’t find any reason why this is happening.

    Same problem here.

I can’t stop staring at the little progress bar under your big news section. It races across that expanse, and makes me a touch anxious.

Why not add a back/next button in there and have it pause on mouse over?

KJet is a nice illustration. How hard would it be to set up a circuit diagram that could be tiled in the background?

I really like the idea behind wordwisp. I love those old illuminated manuscripts. Part of me wants to see what you can do with more thought on the book metaphor, but then part of me feels like you’re trying to squeeze a horse though a mousehole. Mixing mediums that are incompatible.

If you were to take up the metaphor of actually writing, the scribe working on a sheey of vellum before it bound, a sheet of old paper on a wooden desk in the background. Maybe the glow of a candle from one side, and a few drops of ink on the wood. And in the center, this yellowed parchment that stetches downwards off the screen. Maybe add some of those little margin illustrations they used to have.

    Hey there,

These secondary pages are awesome. I don’t give a crap about cars, but I’m getting exciting seeing these great photos of custom paint jobs and shiny bits of chrome.

    However…

If you’re using images for the navigation, why is the type all crappy? Ditto on footer contact info, utility links in the top, and the Legal link. If they were text, they’d be easier to maintain, be accessible, and would render better in Vista/MacOSX. If you stay with images, they could look a lot better than this.

The information architecture here is a bit confusing. There’s like two competing navigation systems, the “Main Menu” navigation, and the “Services, Testimonials, etc.” navigation. They don’t seem related. I didn’t actually notice the “Main Menu” nav for a while, it seems like kind of an afterthought.

Finally, I don’t get the initial into page. It feels like those old flash intro pages from years back, a speedbump on my way to the rest of the site. Only, looking at the rest of the site, this is really also a really important part of navigating the site.

This site looks fantastic, but it really doesn’t make sense as I click through it. From the homepage I click on Custom Paint, but then there’s no link over to the section on airbrusing. I have to go up to Services / Airbrushing.

I’d recommend sitting down and mapping out the different things people coming to this site are likely to want to do. Reorganize the site and navigation around that. The design is there. This site just needs to be reshuffled.

Mercy is for the weak ??

Ok, first up – typography. I think it needs some work. So far I’ve seen: Times Roman, Gill Sans, Verdana, Arial. The modern fonts feel out of place in what really seems like a hand-crafted homemade feel I get from the rest of the design. The creases in the paper, the wallpaper background, the earth tones, then we get Gill, Airal, and Verdana. It feels uncomfortable to me. If you’re going hand-crafted, keep going with it, and lets use some serif fonts.

The Typographic heierarchy of the Headline text is off as well I think. Verdana’s strength lies in it’s high readability on systems that don’t alias fonts, like Windows XP. I think you could find a better choice for the headline text. But back to hierarchy, it feels like it’s slipping down and not dominating the body text enough. Websites are best when they’re skimmable, and having a clear distinction between *THIS IS HEADLINE* and <this is content> really helps with that. It makes reading the site easy breezy.

Photos! These photos are great. Your sister has a great smile. My only thought is perhaps these could be displayed in some kind of a slideshow or thumbnails, or both. You could fit more posts on the page, make it easier to skim.

I’d remove the Welcome / Posts / Tags section at the top, or move it to a less important area than top and center. Unlike most sites, I don’t really think you need a tagline, “Donovan Brock Photography” sums it up pretty well. I know what this site is about. So the welcome message is kind of redundant. I feel “Latest Posts” is redundant as well, since I’m already looking at the latest posts. Although, if the posts continue to be so tall, maybe that would help with the skim-ability.

Thats about it I think. There’s the start of a good design in here. I just think you need to sit down and clean up the tone here.

The name of your site does not match the URL.

    Header: PC Gamer’s Place
    URL: pcgamerplace

    That aside..

Why do I want to download your toolbar? This is the first thing I see, and its a robot on a scooter. Is this robot going to be on my toolbar? It’s Free and Secure. Good. I like that. But what does it do?

I reloaded the page without AdBlock running, and I agree with the other posters, the animated ads are rough. I know they offer more money, but that’s because they take over the site visually. I also question the decision to place google ads in the *middle* of a post as is being done in “Writers Needed”. Sidenote: if your target demo is the hardcore gamer crowd how many of them are running AdBlock? Just a thought.

The layout seems to be having trouble. “Contact Us” has bumped down to the second line, and the second line of nav is pushed down and has a white line going through it. (FFox3, Mac).

Nice design. I agree that the colors in the header are quite good. It feels very … gentle. Like a breeze.

I’d look at contrast in the type overall, its a bit light, and maybe the line-height on the body text.

    Sure, few things.

What is a CycloDS Revolution? After hunting for about a minute, I find this buried in teh small print at the center of the page:

“CycloDS is the best flash cart solution on the market”

I’m a gamer. I have a DS. I imagine I’m within some kind of target demographic. I have no idea what this site is about, or what you’re selling. I can see in the banner that you intend to “take the DS to the next level” but yeah, what is this all about?

Ok! After scrolling down for a while I see that this is some way to expand the functionality of the DS. Cool. This needs to be summed up in a tagline, and placed in the header.
