In reply to: [Sociable] Sociable Skyscraper not working@shan, we’re in the same boat. I think Skyscraper seems like a groovy plugin and it would allow me to ditch Digg Digg. I haven’t liked Digg Digg ever since THEY decided that all of their users would prefer to NOT have the floating display on their homepage because it takes away from the blog experience or some crap like that.
I came to this thread while searching to find out why my Skyscraper wasn’t showing up. I’m like you…I have simple expectations. If you’re going to put out a plugin, it’s ALSO your responsibility to help people figure out why it’s not working on their blog.
The Sociable plugin has always been a great one that serves the purpose very well. I’ve always had those guys on my “good” list. And while they’re probably a good bunch of people (or maybe it’s just one person…I don’t know), they are seriously dropping the ball on this one. But just in case they’re unsure about it…it’s called “Customer Service” and it might be a good idea for them to learn how it works and then try it out. ??
I’m not angry, just disappointed. Not only in Sociable (and the Skyscraper plugin), but in any person or company who released an app, product, or plugin and then doesn’t do an excellent job of supporting it.
I hope a solution will be forthcoming. I’m still willing to try the plugin, but I guess now I’ll be a bit cautious before jumping into any new wiz-bang plugin they come out with.
Best of luck, Shan (and everyone).
Cheers,

In reply to: [Sociable] Sociable Skyscraper not workingFirst, I have nothing against the Sociable guys. But the fact is, Shan asked for help 4 months ago (at the time of this comment). One of the Sociable guys left a couple of comments but all of them were debating whether the Pro version of their plugin was created by them. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t. I don’t really care. But the fact remains that only one post attempted to further discussion on why Skyscraper wasn’t working. To the present, no solutions have been offered by Sociable.
Again, let me state that I have no ax to grind. I don’t care about the Pro version and I like the classic Sociable plug in. But facts are facts, and Shan appears to be correct about customer support from Sociable.
Next, I tried the reset method that somebody other than the Sociable guys suggested. No combination of resetting anything worked for me.
Next, A quick scan of the Internet showed other discussions about Skyscraper not working and no solutions being presented.
Next, it’s been 4 months since this discussion started and the issue remains. Why the Sociable guys would allow such an issue to continue without pushing out multiple updates and at the very least commenting that they don’t know what’s breaking their plugin but they’re working day and night to fix it (even if they’re only working 9-5) is beyond me.
Seriously, guys, it ain’t right. At least make it look like you’re TRYING to do something about it.
Again, I’m just presenting a point of view. I WANT to like Skyscraper because it seems like a nifty plugin with a few more options than Digg Digg, especially the ability to have it show up on the homepage, which Digg Digg removed from their plugin.
Hope there’s a solution soon.

So I should ask them to add “SimpleXML” right?

In reply to: [Plugin: Google Analytics Dashboard] Here’s what sucks….(SimpleXML)!Samboll & k_nitin_r:
Thanks for your replies.
Well, as I said, my issue wasn’t specifically with this plugin because I couldn’t actually use it. I admit, I may have taken a jab at the wrong person here, but that’s clearly due to my own ignorance and general frustration…and I still claim both (ignorance and frustration).
I don’t know what I don’t know. So if something is missing I have no way of knowing that unless someone tells me, as in this situation. And usually by then, something has gone wrong. From my viewpoint, something didn’t work as expected due to not having something else installed. This happens to me all the time with plugins lately. Naturally, I assumed the problem was due to the plugin.
k_nitin_r,
I like your analogy. It is very accurate to my situation. You also said:
If this is an installation on your server, get your system administrator to fix it. If you have a hosting service, write to them complaining about their PHP setup. If it’s running on your own computer, try using XAMPP.
I really have no idea what to do with this information. I paid someone to install WordPress because I know nothing about MySQL. Also, because my web host’s (APlus.net) easy WordPress instillation wouldn’t allow me to install WP to the root directory. It would only allow “/blog” or “wordpressblog.domain.com”. So I found a guy would could install it to the root. So I don’t know if he did something wrong or if it’s an Aplus.net issue.
Any suggestions? I really hope I don’t end up having to pay someone to correct this. But that’s not your problem. If it’s an aplus.net problem, I may be able to get them to correct it for free if I know how or what to ask them to do.
Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. I don’t know how to check the permission status. Is this something you can explain?

In reply to: Layout won’t save – keeps changingBased on what you’re saying, the thought occurs to me that perhaps the color issue is a conflict between my stylesheet and the fact that I’m trying to change the color of all the text instead of just some of the text.
I tried changing the color of the text for my posts in my stylesheet but it didn’t change anything when I tried a test post. I didn’t have time to explore this further since I was in a rush. But thanks for bringing this to my attention. I’m still new at this but because of what you said, I’m guessing I’m on the right track.
Any idea why my bullets don’t show up? ??
Thanks,

In reply to: Layout won’t save – keeps changingIridiax,
Thanks for your reply. I started a new post, changed the color of the text to green, then saved it. After it finished saving, most of the text reverted back to black, though I never used the html option. I clicked the preview button and confirmed that some of the text did stay green, but most of it wasn’t.
It appears that this is not a result of using the html option so I’m back where I started. It just doesn’t make sense. Thanks for your help. Let me know if you have any other ideas.
Sincerely,

In reply to: Layout won’t save – keeps changingIridiax,
I appreciate your suggestion, however, a lot of sources suggest switching from visual to html in order to past code and such. I can’t imagine that WordPress would be designed with a flaw that causes issues if you switch between visual and html. But I suppose it’s possible. Can you suggest where I can get more information about this? Also, is there any way to correct this so it’s not a problem and I can still switch back and forth without any issues?
Thanks,

In reply to: Layout won’t save – keeps changingI’m having a similar problem. I highlight the entire text for a post and change the color to green then I save it. After it finishes saving, some of the text will be green but most of it goes back to being black. If I mess with it long enough, putting the code for the color in by hand via html view, I eventually get the color to stick but it takes a long time to accomplish this.
Also, my bullets or numbers never show up when I make a bulleted or numbered list.

As for your problem with Amazon affiliate links, if you’ve put them in your side bar, you may have to adjust the width of the affiliate area. Go to the Sidebar.php and look for your Amazon information. For example:
<script language="Javascript1.1" type="text/javascript"> <!-- amazon_prw_id = "V20070822/US/illumin0f-20/8100/3bb0cb73-cce7-4343-9d63-632f28c9e4ee"; amazon_prw_width = "160"; amazon_prw_height = "600";//--></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="https://apn.amazon.com/gp/apn/hybrid/js/prw.js"></script>
You would adjust the 160 to a smaller number then save and view results until it shows up.
I hope this helps.

In reply to: [Plugin: Tabbed Widgets] Chasing My Tail – Can’t Get TW Working!Kaspars,
I’ve been struggling with this widget for weeks. There doesn’t seem to be another widget like this, that I have been able to find or I would have tried to use that one already since I have been unable to get this one working.
I mean no offense by that. Your widget looks really great, which is why I decided to try it in the first place. I know you’re probably a busy person and may not have time to help everyone. But, I would be very happy to send you a donation if you can help me get this working.
Thanks for all your effort and for this widget. I look forward to eventually having it working.

In reply to: [Plugin: Tabbed Widgets] Chasing My Tail – Can’t Get TW Working! You’re right. I got TW widget to show up as one of the options. I added the it to my current widgets list but it’s still not showing up in my side bar even though I have the unique identifiers code properly inserted. It just doesn’t make sense to me.
Any other ideas? I hope we can eventually get this working, I think it will be a very useful widget. Any idea you suggest will be greatly appreciated.
