In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsAndrea, I did figure that’s what you meant, but I’m just not too familiar with it. I’ve used it once and found it to be tedious to learn. I’m sure I’ll learn it eventually, but I just don’t have the time at the moment to do that. I’m sure that since I’m moving everything to multi-site that I’m going to have to learn this stuff since the only backup strategy that I have read that works involves PHPMyAdmin and other things like ssh for recovery. I can’t say that the balance of time it would take for me to start over would be less than the time it would take me to do the necessary poking/prodding you suggest. I think there can only be one guaranteed way to resolve this as there is too much guesswork in going to “look in the database.” I’m amazed there just isn’t some sort of way to flush the cache and reset my pointing config.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsI really don’t know how to “look in the database” as I’m sure you probably mean using MySQL or some other tool to see records. I wouldn’t know what to do.
I think I’m just going to need to blow it away and start over.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsAs I did say, it was off, but I have taken additional precautions and turned it off on all sites and uninstalled it. I also cleared the cache using that plugin for this site.
Would it be ill-advised to delete the folders that represent the site installs that are not in use plus this site as a way of wiping this clean and reinstalling/remapping the site?
What if I uninstalled the domain mapping plugin and then reinstalled it? Would that blow everything up?

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@ipstenu, I’m not avoiding tell you what I have. I have all of the following plugins installed and turned off:
Akismet
Google Analytics for WordPress
Gravity Forms
Gravity Forms MailChimp Add-On
Gravity Forms User Registration Add-On
Gravity Forms Widget
W3 Total Cache
(WordPress SEO is on for all sites)That is just for this blog.
For the main site, I have the following:
Simple Page Ordering
WordPress Importer
WordPress MU Domain Mapping
WordPress SEOAs far as how I did the mapping, yes, I screwed it up. I can’t tell you what I did wrong. All I know is that I didn’t do things in the right order. I tried to set them all up through the main site instead of main site, sub-site, main site, sub-site, etc.
And as far as the idea that the problem is with the DNS, that’s not possible because the settings are completely identical and everything else is set up correctly and working with all other sub-sites.
And, by the way, if the problem were with anything other than the mapping, wouldn’t the pages also be screwed up? Why is it just the posts? My guess is that there is some part of the loop that has to do with posts that is screwed up.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@andrea, you are totally right about that, but is there some way to clear it. There must be some cache somewhere that can be cleared without having to do a reinstall. If it were easy to do the reinstall and move everything, I would, but I’m trying to avoid that.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@ipstenu: Thanks for continuing to look into this.
I’d love to know if there is some sort of cache I can clear to resolve this issue.
@andrea: I can do screen shots if you like, but I honestly *do* have custom permalinks turned on. Isn’t proof of that in how the link that works for you is formed?
And I know what you mean about paying the bills, so hopefully this will help you pay the bills down the road by helping to unfrack what I have obviously fracked.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@andrea, I have set the primary domain back to https://micuerpomilogro.beachheadcommunications.com and that is all I have done. You can see the posts just fine I’m sure.
I do appreciate your help and your willingness to volunteer your time.
I would like to think that something is always gained by being interested and wanting to help.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@andrea, I don’t know what you mean by “go look in the database for them” as I am able to edit the posts like I would if it were working. I would love to sort out what’s messed up before domain mapping it, but I’m not exactly sure how I would go about doing that. It does work fine when I set the primary as https://micuerpomilogro.beachheadcommunications.com if that’s what you mean.
I get the error from the get-go. I am not turning anything on for the site. The error appears as soon as I set micuerpomilogro.com as the primary.
Isptenu could use a lesson from you to *avoid allcaps* when he wants to empasize. I’m sure he means well and would save the world if given the opportunity, but it seems very rude and unkind and I’m not going to pretend that it’s appreciated.
@andrea, if you want, I can set you up with an admin username/password and email it to you.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@andrea, I have seven posts in this blog that were imported. This problem existed before I imported anything.
@ipstenu, You are correct on your assumptions about the main domain and the subdomain.
1. The plugin is WordPress MU Domain Mapping (of which you have publicly spanked me for calling it a WPMU by the way).
2. It did not working before pretty permalinks and it also didn’t work after, nor after changing back and then back again.
3. I don’t know how it could work without mapping.Could you please REFRAIN FROM ALLCAPPING AS IF I WERE A MORON? I am asking for help not berating.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsI don’t quite know what you mean. All of my working domains have the same structure for the links. They resolve to the proper domain (all eight domains) except for this one.
Forum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsPermalink structure is /%category%/%postname%/ (I did have it set to /%category%/%posts%/ for a short while there…boneheaded mistake there… I don’t know they just don’t make pretty permalinks as a default option.)

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsI have turned on pretty permalinks back on again and there is something REALLY WEIRD with this.
Now my hotlink looks like this: https://micuerpomilogro.beachheadcommunications.com/uncategorized/%posts%/
…and, of course, it throws an error (as Bad Request).

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 posts@ipstenu, thanks for clarification re Multisite v. WPMU.
As I had said up top, my pages DO work.
The posts are the problem, not the pages. I tried creating a test post and even that didn’t work.
And I don’t quite know what you mean by “permalinks ain’t on” because I did have them on and reverted them back to defaults and it doesn’t work either way.
I appreciate the help, but is there something I can do about this? The error is pretty simple and shouldn’t be so hard to fix. I deleted the site and brought it back and I got the same error.
Forum: Networking WordPress
In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsAnd it’s domain mapped. I have success with all my other blogs (domain mapped) on the site. No other blogs exhibit this problem.

In reply to: WPMU new install produces 404 postsAndrea, thank you again for your support on this one. I know I’m in good hands.
So, I do have a post at https://micuerpomilogro.com/uncategorized/hello-world/
I get a 404 error there.
I changed the permalinks BACK to the defaults and I still get the error.
