Thank you. I have already found some of those resources and followed these directions. E.g. I’ve already replaced all WP core files and examined other files (themes & plugins) for malicious code – didn’t find any. I also did not find any altered posts in the database.

The only thing that bothers me right now is these re-appearing thumbnail files. Could it be that my ET theme or one of the plugins generates them on the fly, or is it certainly malicious?

I am just another person that tried to use customization and got an error.

However, there are many more bugs. Plenty of styles are broken (I’m using child theme). For example ‘read-more btn’ style looks weird now – as if it’s lost padding; the titles in content boxes got very big, among other problems.

Looking forward to the fix.

What browser are you using? I’m using Chrome and Opera, and they _never_ displays any favicon in the address bar… I’m sure Firefox is the same way, never tried IE though.

Just add .header {display:none;} in the custom css field

If I were you, I’d make a back-up of all my content (through XML export for example) and re-install WordPress from scratch, install only the most necessary plugins and just one theme, then import the backup.

Sometimes that is quicker (and less work) than troubleshooting…

I tried that – it messes up the horizontal alignment – buttons are no longer centered…

That is quite easy. You can remove these arrows by entering this in Custom CSS field:
.carousel-control { display: none; }

I’d just create an empty page and make it my home…

I’ve simply put my favicon.ico file in the root (html) folder on my server – and it just shows up.

I think I’ve solved my own problem. After renaming my-page.php to front-page.php all works again.
