    Thank you!

I’d love to know if you figured this out – it’s driving me mad too!

Thank you elitist – you provided the one explanation that I found that both made sense to me and worked!

Myelin – you are a champion. Thank you so much for this, it’s the only thing that I’ve found that actually does what it says it will. I am (obviously) not very PHP savvy, which is probably my main problem, but it’s such a simple thing, and it’s taken waaaaaay too long to find a solution. Thanks again!

Thank you, THANK YOU for the suggestion to ‘delete each instance of the charset being mentioned’ – I knew that changing webhosts wasn’t going to be as easy as it seemed – and when I got this error when trying to restore my database, I was pulling my hair out! Deleted all mentions and it is now telling me ‘Your SQL-query has been executed successfully’. Yay!

Ah! Thank you. Just checked and you were exactly right!

No – that makes sense to me – I’ll try that now and report back!
(I will back them up first, just in case).

I am having exactly the same problem. Only now I can comment and then I get the error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: checkaicode() in /home/blahblah/public_html/wordpress/wp-comments-post.php on line 40

So I know that I’ve got to change some code somewhere, but I’m not sure where or what it is! This is taking days!

No – I’ve tried replacing from the ‘Classic’ themes folder and the ‘Default’ folder and have had no luck. I am completely without comments. I can see if a comment has been left, but if I click on ‘comments’ it reloads the page in question and comments don’t appear – it’s like they’re not even activated. I have no idea what to do.

I thought everything had gone smoothly with my upgrade to 1.5, but I am having the same problem with comments. I have tried copying over comments.php from the Classic theme folder to my Carrots (nice one!) folder – but it hasn’t fixed it, and now I think I can definitely say… I’m stuck!

Oh. And in my old comments.php there is no mention of wp-blog-header.

Thank you very much for this. I had tried to fix it like this, but forgot the leading slash!

Hmmm. I deleted my password from the ‘Password Manager’ and went through my cookies (couldn’t find any for the forum). I then tried logging back in through Firefox, typing everything in manually – still does the same thing. :o(

So then I logged out in IE and tried again in Firefox. No joy. Then I couldn’t log back in using IE!! I had to delete all my cached files and cookies before it would let me in. I don’t get it.

OK. I have been struggling with Permalink issues since the start of the year. This is the first of the many, many posts I’ve read that actually helped. It led me to stumble on what I think was the reason my permalinks weren’t working, and hopefully this might help other people with the same problem.

First of all I updated my permalink settings to /archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ and my category settings to /archives/category

I updated .htaccess via the WordPress template interface. All my archive and category links then immediately broke. But something niggled. I ftp-ed into my site and looked at the .htaccess files, both in the root where I keep the index.php and in my /wordpress directory. Neither of them had been updated. Weird. I went back to the template interface, scrolled down to ‘Common Files’ and moused over where it says ‘.htaccess (for rewrite rules)’ to see where it linked to (so I could try and find out exactly what it was updating).

    The link was to:
    https://www.miaowthecat.com/wordpress/wp-admin/templates.php?file=.htaccess

I am not a PHP or WordPress guru by any distant stretch of the imagination, so this didn’t make much sense to me. What I did instead was make a new .htaccess file with my new settings (thank you Cam) and uploaded them to my root directory and my wordpress directory. I could not BELIEVE it. My permalinks all worked. Shock and awe. Naturally I couldn’t leave it alone. I tried changing my permalink settings to:
    /wordpress/archives/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ and
    /wordpress/archives/category

I uploaded it again via FTP and everything broke. OK. So it doesn’t like the ‘wordpress’ directory thing. I decided I could definitely live with that, and fixed back up to how it was working before. I am happy ??

I have this problem too. I cannot login to the forums via Firefox, for some reason, and have to use IE. If anyone can figure this out, I would be v.grateful. It is not a password issue.

I found the Authimage installation truly exhausting, it’s taken me three hours to get working. I am a PHP vegetable.
Thank you ChristianL – your suggestiong was the final thing that made it work.
    :o)
