In reply to: EMAIL USERS causing a loopback failure on WordPressOK – well, I ‘solved’ this eventually. So, in case it helps anyone, here’s what I did. More in hope than expectation, and as all else had failed, I completely removed Email Users. When I say ‘completely’, I mean even to the extent of searching through the entire DB and removing any references to it. Then I re-installed with a fresh download, activated and – pffft! – all error messages gone.
HTH somebody.

In reply to: EMAIL USERS causing a loopback failure on WordPressWell – just as an update to this: I put WP in Troubleshooting mode and enabled just one plug-in – Email Users. My error returned: “Error: A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check()”. Then, whilst still in trouble-shooting mode, I tried two different themes, each time running the ‘Health Check’ afterwards. The error persisted. I came out of troubleshooting mode, swapped back to my original theme (twenty-ten) and disabled Email Users. Re-ran the health-check and the error is gone. I’m wondering if to try an earlier version of Email Users, if there is one in the repository. I know that’s not an ideal solution, so appreciate any alternative suggestions.

In reply to: EMAIL USERS causing a loopback failure on WordPressThanks for the prompt reply. I am inclined to agree – if this was a general problem, you’d know about it by now. Looking at it a bit more closely, I think this error message is misleading – I think the version check is disabled, but it is very likely to do with some read/write permissions being mis-set. This – if it’s true – is my responsibility, not the plug-in’s! I will investigate.
Having said which, even with all other plug-ins disabled, I still get the “characters of unexpected output” message when re-activating the plug-in. That doesn’t seem to actually stop it activating, nor does it produce any ‘headers already sent’ messages, so I’m not too worried about it.
Thanks again for your help.

In reply to: EMAIL USERS causing a loopback failure on WordPressWell, it it helps, I have a similar problem. Activating the plug-in produces this warning: “The plugin generated 2 characters of unexpected output during activation. If you notice “ headers already sent ” messages, problems with syndication feeds or other issues, try deactivating or removing this plugin.”
But, more worryingly, if I then run WP’s Health Check, I see (under ‘Critical Errors’) “Error: A plugin has prevented updates by disabling wp_version_check()”
De-activating the plug-in removes this message – but it would probably produce the ‘loop-back’ message the OP received.
Marc – Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The JSON library is installed (according to phpinfo) so I will refer to the ISP for further help. Thanks again.

In reply to: [Health Check & Troubleshooting] Your site cannot be found by search enginesExactly the same situation here, if it’s any consolation.

In reply to: [WP Email Users] Sends blank emailsNo, I didn’t. Have not heard from the devs either and I think this should be pulled from the repository if they can’t/don’t get it working soon.

In reply to: [WP Email Users] Blank email subject and contentProbably no consolation, but I just installed this plug-in and have this same issue. Email is sent (and arrives) but has no subject and no content. Am running latest WP and plug-in.

In reply to: [WP-Members Membership Plugin] TOS checkbox issueAh! That has fixed it. I was lacking the closing [/wpmem_form] tag. Many thanks
Many thanks for your prompt response – much appreciated.

In reply to: Admin log-in not working.Jeez! I have now discovered that my host has relocated the database (whilst leaving the old one in-situ). Apparently, all customers (except me, by the looks of things!) were notified by email. Now that I know this, I think I can probably sort things out – but thank you so much for your help and advice – much appreciated.

In reply to: Admin log-in not working. Thanks Lisa. A quick answer to your questions – then some surprising news…
-are there any unusual files that you can see via FTP?
No – nothing obvious
-any unusual tables in database?
No, but see below
-is the wp-config showing the correct database credentials?
Yes
-any must use plugins that influence your login processNo
-do you have a backup of database and files to use in case a restore is needed
I have a back up which is about one month old. I haven’t tried a restore yet.
-are you using any security plugins
Well…see below
-have you checked in with your webhosting vendor to see if they have any insights
Not yet. They are pretty useless but I intend to ask them if all else fails.
Now…I said earlier that there is one other user who can log-in. I promoted this user to ‘admin’ in the DB. If I then login as this other user, I get an email that says that a user with admin rights has logged in. This is generated by the Wordfence plug-in. Now here’s the weird bit: When I look with FTP at this site, there is no wordfence plug-in installed. Not only that, but there are no wordfence tables showing in the database either. Now totally baffled…

In reply to: [amr users] Configure list: fallback to list #1Sure – no problem. Thanks for looking into it.

In reply to: [amr users] Configure list: fallback to list #1Hmmm. Still no luck. If I alter a heading in ‘list-3’ and then save, the change is reflected in list-1 (but is not applied to list-3). I’ve tried resetting the column headings prior to making a change, but this didn’t help. Maybe, as a stop-gap, I could make changes directly within MySQL tables? Usually, when things go wrong, it turns out to be ‘user-error’. I have not yet ruled that out ??
