I got it to work. I moved to a different host – the guys @ Avast were very helpful in identifying the issue. My previous host had some issues – it turns out my IP was tied to a blacklisted site.

I moved out, and asked Avast to reconsider. They did something to their AV database to fix that – now my site is trustworthy ??

I got a 404 as well. I installed XML Sitemap Generator for WordPress 4.0.7 instead and it works fine. So I think there is a problem with this plugin…

My installation is somewhat pretty standard (apache 2, not nginx) and I am not using W3 Total Cache.

I did contact them, and they are saying that if that was the actual problem, there would be more reports of problems…

I now called avast, and they’re saying my computer is the problem. But it happens on every computers I tried which runs avast – albeit support there said it’s not happening to them (do they even run avast? ?? ).

Now, I ran Zulu to try and no threats:

I wonder if anyone else could give it a try and see if there is an actual problem with them going on the site?

Just found out – in the single.php file you need to call the __() function to get the translation to run on the quote variables. quite easy.
