In reply to: [Mystique] Compatible WordPress 4.1@manu56
Mystique theme (both the basic theme 2.5.7 available from www.ads-software.com or the more advanced Atom version 3.3.2 from the developers site) is not fully compatible with any version of WordPress since 3.6The main problems are with some theme settings options. While there are work-arounds for these, they require some skill with CSS and WordPress functions, and/or manual file uploads by ftp in some cases.
There are also sometimes problems changing templates of published pages/posts
Unless you are comfortable with modifying the theme (using a child theme preferably) then I’d say stay away from Mystique. If you are willing to experiment then Mystique is still a great theme (one of my favourite themes and I still use it).
The developer seems to have abandoned development and support for this theme unfortunately so an update is unlikely. However, you’ll find many solutions to bugs have been published by users – Google the problem.

In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Massive resource spike?I doubt these spikes are caused by this plugin
It’s normal to see spikes in server resource usage. The level of resource use is dependent on a number of factors – here’s some of the common ones
1. Server processes for the site – e.g. cron runs (server cron and WordPress cron) produce spikes
2. Number of visitors to the site in a period of time – many visitors at the same time increase the use of resources. You can look at the “entry processes” to get an idea of concurrent active visits, compare to when you see a spike. Cpanel “Latest Visitors” also gives you an idea of site traffic
3. Bots – some bots hit the site at a high crawl rate – MSN (including Bing and Yahoo) bots especially – MSN bots may hit the site from 20 IPs at the same time and are heavy resource hogs. Keep an eye on “Latest Visitors” to monitor bot activity
4. Botnet attacks (DOS type attacks) – these may hit the site from 100s of IPs at the same time and can overload the server (which is what they are trying to do)WP admin stuff and logged-in activity (subscribers etc) is also is more resource intensive than normal site traffic
You can reduce resource usage by caching the site – caching reduces the amount of resources used by reducing the need for the server to read the database for every page load. Further reduction in resource use can be achieved by minimising and combining CSS and JS files – each CSS and JS file adds to resource use – fewer means lower resources are needed.
Hope this info helps clarify things.

In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Plug-in does strange things to the Admin areaAlways good to test first ??
Agree – FTPing all the files is a pain
There’s a plugin to block the update notification nag “Plugin Update Hider” which works most of the time… it’s a bit unreliable since WP 3.9
I mostly just edit the file version of plugins I don’t want update notices for, and set it to a much higher number…. One of those not-recommended “Don’t Do As I Do” things…GA plugin – Also seen some problems – I prefer to just add the tracking code in theme footer.php anyway

In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Plug-in does strange things to the Admin area@gr8fl
Not difficult.
Leave everything as it is in WordPress admin…
Go to your hosting file manager and find directory /wp-content/plugins/ and look for the wordpress-seo plugin folderDelete the plugin folder from the file manager..
Download an older version of WordPress SEO from here https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-seo/developers/ to your PC (I suggest version 1.5.5.3 – it’s the version I’ve reverted to using after every recent update, and seems to have the least issues)
Go back to WordPress admin and go to plugins – Add New
upload the plugin – You’ll see options at the top of the installer page e.g.
Search | Upload | Featured | etcAfter it uploads, you need to reactivate the plugin
I’ve done this so often with this plugin on a number of sites and haven’t yet lost any settings (hopefully there’s not going to be a first time)Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Yoast SEO] Set unique product category title per pageTry editing each category individually and adding the SEO Title manually
The SEO box should be visible below the other category fields, same as in normal page/post editing screens.
If this doesn’t override the template (very unusual if it doesn’t) – delete the template stuff from plugin Titles and Metas / TaxonomiesForum: Plugins
In reply to: [Jigoshop] WorldPay Payment Response Callback FailureHi Paul
Any news from your developer?HI David
Thanks for response ??
I ran a test on a mirror dev site with the latest version – It works, so looks like problem is resolved.RE “new thread” – done
Lastly – a word of encouragement: It’s fully understandable why more and more developers are switching to “Pro” versions of their plugins. Yes, we get irritated when this happens with an existing plugin, and features previously available are missing from the free option.
(And it’s not easy to get clients to go for the pro option for something they’ve used for a long time – It’s hard to get them just to make a donation).Users of free plugins must realise; development takes time, sometimes a LOT of time – As so often happens with WP version updates now, changes in core require extensive reworks of plugin code –
It’s not necessary for users to become abusive!
There’s always the option to hire a developer to update a system (for compatibility for security reasons), develop a bespoke plugin… They’d pay for the time – on a once-off basis – the work would cost several hundred to many thousands of $.Plugin developers who switch to Pro versions spread the development cost over many plugins, and take the risk they won’t ever get full payment for their time…
WordPress FREE plugins are provided with NO GUARANTEE. Developers are not obliged to provide free support.
If something goes wrong, YES report the issue.
But if it takes days or even months to get a response, remember that the help provide on these WordPress forums is FREE. If immediate support is wanted – then go for the pro option. If support is slow or poor when one has bought a system, then there’s a valid reason to complain.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Meta Generator and Version Info Remover] New Version Breaks My PageYep IT WORKS ??
Many thanks for great response – every WordPress installation should use this plugin…Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Meta Generator and Version Info Remover] New Version Breaks My PageGood response Pankaj – and my affected sites are running on PHP 5.2
Will try it tomorrow and advise ??Hi David.
Some more info on this issue (I’ve seen the same thing as airflame – not working at all)
Mode – display only on selected urls.
404 errors logged:
/?inc_popup= followed by page e.g. /?inc_popup=about-us (if the page url was domain/about-us) etc for each page using the pop-up
Doesn’t matter which loading method either.Sorry I can’t give you access to the site as it’s a client’s, and only a single pop-up is useless to her so have removed the plugin. Older version seems to have problems with WP 3.9 etc so cannot revert. No surprises there – just about every plugin since then has issues again.
My own sites are using 4.4.5.4 and WP 3.8.2 and have no problems (and I’m not updating my own sites to later versions of WP)

Also a nice plugin, but the really nice things about yours are the colours and convenient way of adding notes ??Forum: Plugins
