In reply to: Adding profile pictureYeah that’s what most have been suggesting. Unfortunately it seems a tad out of my league for setting it up. Any quick/easy pointers? I feel like the instructions included are for far more than I’m actually wanting to accomplish.
Strikes me odd there is no easier way to just add your own personal image.

In reply to: Changing site to WP, already have WP BlogTrue enough. Just update the current blog. Delete the HTML site. Follow that link and move it to root folder.
Makes sense.

In reply to: Changing site to WP, already have WP BlogCould always just keep all the pages drafts until your ready to go live.
Thanks for the help BTW. Will make life much easier.
If I chose though, technically I could put up an under construction page, delete off the HTML pages altogether, install a new WP, and move the blog like stated above.

In reply to: Changing site to WP, already have WP BlogSo it’s currently setup like: https://www.website.com as the HTML website and WordPress is at https://www.website.com/blog

In reply to: Changing site to WP, already have WP BlogSo you would just log into the current WordPress blog and update all the files as you wanted… then when you were ready remove the HTML site and make the new WordPress site go live?

In reply to: Mirror site to new server and back againAh. So I can do it via that wp-options table INSTEAD of doing it in the actual wordpress backend settings area?
I really appreciate you answering these questions… huge help!
It’s so much easier to just move from a test server to a live site when you don’t care if the test server keeps working… as you just edit the settings URL in the backend… but since I need to keep the stuff working this time it threw me for a loop.

In reply to: Mirror site to new server and back againSo I don’t actually have to install wordpress via fantastico (softaculous on my test server)? I can just straight upload all the files via FTP?
Or should I install wordpress then overwrite the files with the stuff from the old site?
Also, at any point do I need to go into the settings of the live site and edit the two URLs? I know it says that on the www.ads-software.com support stuff, but again, that then renders the site useless does it not?

In reply to: Issue with wordpress and robots.txtWell right now there is no robots.txt.
It used to say:
User-agent: *
Disallow: /Then after I was done building I swapped it to:
User-agent: *
Allow: /Only because I used googles webmaster tools to generate the robots.txt to allow the robots. That’s how it does it.
Right now I have completely removed it, as having it say “allow” is just the same.
It says it was read last (via webmaster tools crawler into) 17 hours ago. It updates robots.txt approximately every 24. I’m assuming I have to wait for the next crawl, although I’ve never run into this issue before.

In reply to: Issue moving wordpress site to new server/URLJust wanted to update folks… I have figured it out.
I wanted to thank you kmessinger, fortunately enough my error was much more simple.
My old wordpress URL used custom link structure where it displayed the pages name, not the default permalink.
All I had to do was once I moved over to the new host and url… I had to just set my permalinks back to default and save them… then go ahead and make them whatever I wanted…. wordpress did the rest on the backend for me.
Thanks again!

In reply to: changed url/db and now some links brokeI’m having similar issues. My page displays fine but my links don’t work.

In reply to: Moving wordpress to a new domain AND hostI doubt you’re still floating around to answer one more question after a month haha… but worth a shot.
So, ONE final question. If I use FTP to copy everything (entire test site folder) over and I had previously installed with fantastico that means I will get the stuff fantastico automatically adds as well….. will this pose any issues?

In reply to: Remove sub-pages from sidebarIs the sub-page widget active? Is it in the sidebar you are talking about? If so there is a check box to disable it, or you can even remove it from the sidebar.
Other than that, not sure… sorry ??

In reply to: Moving wordpress to a new domain AND hostOkay, thanks again. I know how to operate phpMyAdmin and import/export databases…
I’ll just do that. copy over all the files, change the urls in the wp-config.php and under settings in backend, and export my database… then just throw it all up on the new server and import the database.
I still find it crazy that if I type a link to a media file I have uploaded in wordpress by actually linking to it URL in the text field, that this all auto-changes to the new URL… crazy stuff I swear!
