In reply to: Still can't login to my blog – Please helpAll the folders & files you mention are there, as usual.
Yes, I did think about uploading a fresh copy and making changes with some of my existing files. I was hoping it wouldn’t come to that…
Would I then enter the SAME ditectory name & URLs (photographer-montreal-blog) or would I create a different one?
The backup has already been made (I copied the entire directory photographer-montreal-blog) to another location.
I’ve pretty much had it for today. My eyes are sore from squiting at code too much today. I’ll have a go again tomorrow.
Thanks for trying to help Mark.

In reply to: Still can't login to my blog – Please helpMark,
Yes, you’re getting a different error now because I didn’t leave those extra code lines in. I made sure to put everything back the way it was.
English and French sites are completely independant. Not linked, no pluggin.
But I built both sites in a similar way. Where as my English version directory is: photographer-montreal-blog
the French one is : photographe-montreal-blogueYes, I changed the URL and Site Address of my English Site. When I saw things weren’t showing up properly anymore, I was still logged in and changed the asdresses back. And I’ve since made sure those addresses are correct via the myphpAdmin tool.
Yet, the site still doesn’t work and I’m still unable to login.

In reply to: Still can't login to my blog – Please helpI repeated all the steps, making sure all the code was there. I’m still getting the same error message instead of a login page.

In reply to: Still can't login to my blog – Please helpHi Mark,
Thanks for your response.
My hosting company which I can only contact by email states that they can set up a new WP account but that they do not provide service for debugging an existing one. (!)
I set-up my two WP accounts by my self. I unfortunately don’t recall how I changed the login method to “myblog” instead of the normal “wp-admin”. I do know I didn’t use a plugin. I must have followed instructions found online to do that manually.
Yes, the directory is photographer-montreal-blog, which is a subdirectory that goes into catherinerondeau.com
And yes, all I did is change the settings of the Homepage Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) at the top of the General Settings tab.
I’ve since corrected thos settings via the phpMyAdmin tool.
Any ideas?

In reply to: Still can't login to my blog – Please helpI’ve just tried another method, still doesn’t work.
I tried the “Relocate method” explained on this page:
https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URLI added the following lines to the bottom of the wp-logon.php file :
defined( ‘RELOCATE’ ) && RELOCATE ) { // Move flag is set if ( isset( $_SERVER[‘PATH_INFO’] ) && ($_SERVER[‘PATH_INFO’] != $_SERVER[‘PHP_SELF’]) ) $_SERVER[‘PHP_SELF’] = str_replace( $_SERVER[‘PATH_INFO’], , $_SERVER[‘PHP_SELF’] );
$url = dirname( set_url_scheme( ‘https://www.catherinerondeau.com/photographer-montreal-blog’ . $_SERVER[‘HTTP_HOST’] . $_SERVER[‘PHP_SELF’] ) ); if ( $url != get_option( ‘siteurl’ ) ) update_option( ‘siteurl’, $url ); }
And the following line to the wp-config.php file : define(‘RELOCATE’,true);
When I then tried to access the login page via:
https://www.catherinerondeau.com/photographer-montreal-blog/wp-login.phpThe following error message appeared in red : Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘)’ in /home/catherin/public_html/photographer-montreal-blog/wp-login.php on line 958
Line 958 being the first line of code I added at the bottom of the wp-login.php

In reply to: I messed-up and can't log-in to adminHi again JenR,
I followed the instructions under “Edit functions.php”. Didn’t work.
I then tried the phpMyAdmin method. Didn’t work.
I then found instructions on how to restore the Database from the phpMyAdmin. Did that. Still doesn’t work.
One additionnal bit of info that mighht be helpful for someone who knows more about this stuff than me : after creating my blog a couple of years ago, I had changed the login method. Instead of typing https://www.mydomainname/subdomain/wp-admin to login, I changed the “wp-admin” to “myblog”. That url wouldn bring up my WP login panel :
https://www.catherinerondeau.com/photographer-montreal/blog/myblog
This login method still works fine on the French version of my blog which I didn’t make any changes to and which I can still access this way :
https://www.catherinerondeau.com/photographe-montreal-blogue/monblogue
I’m thinking these changes I made in the way to login to my WP-admin are somehow blocking all my attemps to fix my current issue.
I AM starting to pannick. I really don’t want to have lost two years of blog posts… If it is so easy to mess up, how come it is so difficult to fix?
Thanks in advance for any help…

In reply to: I messed-up and can't log-in to adminI had actually already tried that method. Didn’t work the first time, didn’t work the second.
I have no trouble accessing and making changes to my php files.
I just need to know WHAT to do.
Any other ideas anyone?

In reply to: I messed-up and can't log-in to adminThanks JenR. I’ll follow those instructions and come back here to tell you how it went.
If file change scanning is activated by users simply visiting, that may well explain why I’m getting more alerts on one blog than on the other. Thanks Martin for that info.
But receiving such alerts simply because people are visiting the site is NOT a useful function at all.
Since no one has been able to help me understand how to distinguish between a serious alert and these numerous benigh ones, I’m going to disable this option all together.
It’s something the people at iSecurity might want to look into because as is, this option is totally useless…
Thanks for your response Martin.
Still, that doesn’t explain why one blog would be signaling updates and not the other.
This File Change Detection option is so NOT user friendly…
Anyone else activating this option and getting numerous alerts? Of so, how can you tell what is what?
I’m thinking I’d probably be better unchecking this option all together…
