You never know when I might pull out a Tesla or Asia lyric…

Thanks Mr Handy, I wouldn’t expect you to dig in that far, you’ve been a great help so far – but you know, if you ever find yourself on a lone and lonesome highway east of omaha with nothing much to do then there’s always this theme for you to tinker with.

yep, the archives work fine with the default theme and any of the pretty permalinks options, archives also work with other themes, I just dont know where to look in my theme to see what’s funked out in a bad way. I couldnt make sense of anything in the codex that would help me know where to look.

Anything else I can do to humor you Mr Handy?

ahhhh… I didn’t realize it was something that involved, I figured it was just because I’m PHP impaired and thought maybe someone could whip out a simple code snippet to plop into the index file.

    thanks

yep, called my host and made sure that the above mentioned things were happily working, they are.

yep, read the permalinks pages in the codex, i never ask questions unless i try to figure them out on my own and cant work it out. this is just beyond my abilities.

eh, i guess i can live without pretty permalinks. ??

    thanks

I just left Westhost for Bluehost earlier this year. Bluehost support is amazing and they do daily backups. Westhost’s control panel is a nightmare and it is so slow it’s painful. Also, you should go to their forums and read the year or two long thread on how sites just freeze up – these are people on their VPS plans. I went with them for the VPS, it wasnt worth it, still lots of downtime and that freezing problem. My sites run so smoothly with Bluehost.

Moved my people and myself over to Bluehost and it’s been a wonderful experience. And Bluehost is going to be offering VPS in the future.

Plus if you sign up for a westhost promo plan, you will never get any upgrades on that plan while people on normal plans are getting more space and goodies, you have to go through the hassle of changing plans after awhile. And their tech support sucks except for a guy named Dave. With Bluehost, you call them up and you dont even have to finish your sentence and they’ve already read your mind and hooked you up with what you need.

ooh, are you giving me permission to be a posting slut and behave as if the WP forums revolve around my needs? because I’ve got about 4 questions burning a hole in my pocket to make this theme work for me but I thought I’d be polite and spread the questions over a week or so.

I would love pretty permalinks to work because pretty is always better (unless you get ajax-itis and make things not functional but that’s another story) – I think I’ll hold off on the post sluttiness and check out the permalinks codex page you gave and then come back and scream in a new thread if I cant figure it out.

    thank you mr handy.

oh – how lovely, thank you very much. all pretty now.

may i suggest that for future WP versions there be a big sign in there that says *dont touch permalink options if you are PHP impaired*

thank you very much. the sk upgrade fixed my problem.

i swear i searched all for all kinds of commenting problems and didnt find that solution

I can’t help you but wanted to mention that I just noticed this too in the last week. I have no idea where to look – comments are there , but it doesnt show that there are any comments. Has to be just a strange coincidence, surely there are no wordpress gremlins out there attacking our comments

yeah, i followed the directions exactly and it was still doing that wacky crap ….I made even more new installations and imported again a couple times to be sure and same thing…. so I tried just importing everything except “options” and “users” tables and everything seems fine now as far as I can see with a little poking around — right logins and going to right pages — just seem to have lost my plug-ins but I can live with that. Hopefully there isnt deeper unseen hell to pay for what I’ve done to try to remedy the situation.

Thank you for all your speedy help, this is the first time I havent had to start over from the beginning when I’ve moved into new digs.

i am sure i am confusing the heck out of you all!

    1. installation on new domain works fine before i mess with anything

    2. i import all of the db tables from the old installation at old domain and everything seems imported fine, the posts are there and i can log in.

    3. But when i log into admin and go to “options” and fix things (new domain address) it logs me out and wont let me back in as stated above

    4. when i go into the options table and do as link you posted above says to do, … i still cant login and its doing the same wacky crap as posted above….not letting me login and looking like its going to new domain name but old wordpress installation foldername.

hm, I bet this didnt make anymore sense than last time. sorry, I’m trying!
