In reply to: How to make the forums a better and more useful place.I mentioned this once before, but I think it would be great if searches of the forums returned more than five title/recent posts/relevant posts. It seems to me that that would go a long way towards cutting down on the number of redundant queries.

In reply to: Setting up a Test Environmentthat was simple. thanks for the help, podz–I’m good to go now.
XAMPP is awesome!!!!!! so happy to have this resource.

In reply to: Setting up a Test Environmentthanks, podz.
I looked at the source, and the link to the css is
https://127.0.0.1/wp-content/themes/default/style.css
instead of
https://127.0.0.1/blog/wp-content/themes/default/style.css
where would I go to change that?
every single link on the page is like that (ie., the archives/permalinks don’t work either; neither does https://127.0.0.1/blog/wp-admin/post.php
sorry to be such a dunce. thanks for the help.

In reply to: Setting up a Test EnvironmentPodz, thanks so much for that link.
A few questions:
1. I set up XAMPP and was able to open my index.php. I see the content of the blog there, but it doesn’t seem to be using the stylesheet to display the content–in contrast to what the directions say, it doesn’t look like my online version of WP. Do you know what I’m missing?
2. Is there any danger, on my own machine, of setting the user to root with no password?
thanks in advance for your help.

In reply to: Seek, and ye shall find.oh, and kudos to NM and Podz for the (new to me) titles of Support Mavens. You both help a lot of people and deserve thanks for your work in this forum.

In reply to: Seek, and ye shall find.I wish that the search function on the forums brought back more than 5 entries. Giving people 10, 15, or 20 returns on their searches would cut down on a lot of queries that end up here. The current structure makes no sense to me if you want people to seek and find, because it’s quite possible now to seek and find nothing.

In reply to: Where are our entries “going…”?you should probably give us a link to your site. I suspect that the problem has to do with your permalink structure and your .htaccess file.

In reply to: Sidebar Position Problem, Help!as macmanx suggests, that often happens when there is something in the sidebar that is wider than the space allowed for it. different browsers handle things differently; even after you’ve got it working, make sure you preview it in both firefox and ie.

In reply to: IE breaks my blogweird. I put the lines back in, and which screwed up the image a bit (it looked fine in Firefox, but IE put a little white line above the header image).
I changed the padding to “0 px,” which helped, but now in both Firefox and IE, the background of the header doesn’t exactly meet up with the background of the main content. Any ideas?

In reply to: IE breaks my bloglol. looks like I took this advice to heart, which is why the lines don’t appear in my header.php:
“If you don’t want to use the template’s images, you can also delete the following two lines.”
Should I put them back in?

In reply to: Question about PagesBy changing the permissions on .htaccess to 666, I was able to create a page: https://www.tatteredcoat.com/contact-me/
However, I have a question–how do I get rid of the “Edit This” link? I would have thought that it would appear in the template for the page, which I assume is page.php in wp-content/themes/default/ , but I can’t find the code there. (I set up the page using the “default template”)
What am I missing?
thanks for the help.
