I’d suggest you to try & test the prereleased version: 1.1 in a new sub domain of your site. Hope it’ll resolve your issue.

The current stable version 1.0.1 has no JS errors in our live & test server. As Corey mentioned above it could be an error with your existing activated plugins. Did you had a chance to check them as well?

Sorry to hear this. Are you using any caching plugin? If so, Please delete cache from it. Then do a hard browser refresh (shift+f5).

Your site’s permalink (WordPress Admin > Settings > Permalink) is set as Default, please change it to any of the other option available below. e.g: Day and name, Post name etc.

Then you’ll be able to access the board instead of the 404 error.

I’ve replied to your issue on Github, as said before it could be an issue to your plugins, WordPress version or both.

Please deactivate all the plugins and see if the you can add default widgets via Customizer or not.

Logically an website owner why would filter a empty category using this widget? This widget is meant to filter posts from a specific category. ??

Any other plugin has conflict? Did you tried deactivating other & checking for the issue?
