In reply to: [WooCommerce] Error 403

The best way to deal with the error is to delete version 8.5.0 and 8.5.1 and reinstall 8.4.0.
That a default “feature” breaks people’s site is ridiculous! It’s even more ridiculous that the onus is put on the customer, many who may not be technically inclined, to jump through hoop after hoop to fix the problem just to turn off a feature known to break people’s site.
And, no, your website’s tech support will not help you with this. They will tell you to uninstall the update and revert back to the last version known to work. That is 8.4.0

Fortunately it didn’t take 6 hours for me. Didn’t dive too much into the server issue since the only cause could have been the plugin update as I did that manually. I did investigate other possibilities as there were other anomalies on the server, but it all boiled down to the plugin updates having bugs.

I would never have auto updates! This was manual. Next time I will be using the staging area, but I am not confident in the product.
And, it is both 8.5.1 and 8.5 that cause the issues. The latest version that works is 8.4

This happened yesterday and I rolled back to 8.4 and things are fine. Got a message saying the bug in 8.5 was fixed in 8.5.1, but that version also has some bug and is the version that introduced the issues on my site.

I encountered the issue, too. Massive fatal issues resulting in complete shutout from my site. Everything from images to wordpress pages in the dashboard and everywhere else – website was dead in the water.
I had to uninstall everything related to woocommerce and then revert back to 8.4. I purchased an extension this morning and got a refund because this issue was a catastrophic fail.

It was not a plugin conflict.
It was not a .htaccess issue.
It was not a permissions issue in the file manager.

It was not anything other than something incredibly wrong with the update. It most likely introduced a fatal flaw to the database.

Make sure you back up your site and understand how to revert things from cPanel before installing this very wrong update.

I’ll be looking for another resource for my store as I cannot trust Woocommerce.
