I have found the solution by myself in the meantime.
When downloading the exported file my Kaspersky Antivirus showed a short message which I could hardly read nor understand. But it left the *.wpress file with the extension *.wpress.part

I did not check the file extension when I tried to import the file.
But the attempt to import the corrupted file lead to the above error message.

I deactivated KAV temporarily and the file could be saved completely.
No hassle to import this file.

I just tried to import a wp installation which I exportet only minutes ago from another site. But after choosing the respective file all-in-one WP Migration comes up with this message:

Version 2.1.1 of All in One WP Migration introduces new compression algorithm. It makes exporting and importing 10 times faster.
Unfortunately, the new format is not back compatible with backups made with earlier versions of the plugin.
You can either create a new backup with the latest version of the plugin, or convert the archive to the new format using our tools here.

I just installed the plug-ins of WP Migration, so they should be of the same version. Following to the tools link in the message leads me to nowhere.

What can I do to use your really helpful plug-in which has been functioning very good in the past?
