Thank you guys so much, both of those tips worked perfectly. I had just discovered word press a few days ago and though it looked like very powerful tool for my website. I had almost giving up getting it to work right though. Thank you.

i think i still left important parts of info out. in hosts file should it be local ip or external (which is dynamic, so i cant see this working) and in the hosts file shoud it be computer name or internet host?

I think i understood you esmi to mean that domain should after host file is fixed go in the setting for wordpress url.

    better way to word this…

1.should i put the ip of the local computer or the wan ip
    2. for domain should i put localhost or the computer name or the domain
    3. once that is done should i put wordpress url as local or external domain name

ip address of the local host? ok if i was to do that, after i changed it which way would i set up word press in the general settings? with the local host name or the domain name?

im not sure what you mean. the localhosts ip is provided by the router. my external ip is dynamic and updates to dyndns.com which keeps my domain name current. i think maybe i know what you are talking about, since most times 127.0.0.1 is the local host, but how would i go about this and how would it impact my other pages currently running from my server?

Ok so I have narrowed my problem down to one simple thing. From the settings menu under general I can set url to be from the local host or from the external domain name. When set to local, I can see blog fine, but for people on the web the source clearly show the files links to the local host, thus they cant see any formating or images.

On the other hand when I set the url to the domain name, people on the web see everything fine. The source shows the links as https://example.example.exp/blog and all is well. But now when set like this I cant locally see these parts as its set to domain.

Basically a loop back error. But how do I fix this so the blog is accessable both localally and externally?
