  • Among other things it is said that it should have no impact except with respect to some customizations perhaps made to the child theme, but it is not so.

    As far as I’m concerned, I had customized only one thing and added two mu-plugins, which I proceeded to delete before the update.
    I also tried to switch to the parent theme on which no hand had been made before updating (thus losing any default option, even minimally modified, such as colors, background, layout…) and by doing so also in the Home are added sections in wrong places, the pages made with Elementor appear randomly paginated and with all wrong alignments and seem to have completely “lost” the responsive capabilities set in Elementor, and above all the pages created by WP Customer Area completely block the browser and do not are able to be executed (by performing a rollback everything works again).

    This is therefore proof that the problems do not derive from customizations and third-party plugins, but from the theme itself.

    I hope they rethink everything otherwise there is no other solution than not updating and in the meantime changing the theme in staging, also because this is not an update but a real “new theme”

    I tried a new approach:

    before upgrading I switched to the parent theme (therefore also losing all the background, layout, color options … etc … which will have to be reviewed), at this point everything still works,
    then I deactivated MMM, WPCA and Elementor (which at the moment appear to be the biggest problems), and obviously there are no more functions related to these plugins but everything still appears at least aligned and not destroyed.
    At this point I would have the pure parent theme, without any changes and nothing at all.
    Disabled Cache Plugins, cleared the cache from the provider and at this point I updated.

    In doing so the graphic aspect of the Home is not destroyed but it is still changed even with the addition of sections that weren’t there before, even some Tablepress tables in the pages created with Elementor are no longer displayed well and the layouts begin to appear randomly “strange”.

    Reactivating the plugins all the problems highlighted before return, making the site unusable.

    So this is proof that the problems are not custom strings and any third-party plugins, but just the theme that approaches it in the wrong way.

    I await possible solutions hoping that there are even if the best thing would be to admit when you have taken the longest step of the leg, take a step back and think again about this which in reality is a new theme that does not update and adapts the previous one, but substantially changes its behavior in all respects

    The site is fantasvaimec.it
    I’ll leave it online for a while like this, but soon I’ll still have to restore a backup so as not to make a bad impression on the users

    The thing I don’t understand is that you say that only the changes to the child theme would be lost, but I really didn’t change anything except hide the Colormag menu display to make room for MMM, but the site breaks completely.

    Even getting rid of that one built-in CSS.

    And then the serious technical problems such as the layouts created with Elementor and the WP Customer Area pages, how can you explain them?
    I haven’t made any hard changes to these things.

    I really hope you have a solution or that in any case all the sites that have become unusable make you rethink a different approach to updating, even perhaps taking a step back.

    Because at the moment the solutions appear 2:
    1) Never update again
    2) Change theme

    Just out of curiosity, I tried on the fly to change the theme to another one:
    apart from the graphics, all the functions, pages, menus and all the rest (including Elementor, WP Customer Area and MMM) work perfectly and are displayed correctly, so unfortunately “the problem” is precisely in the new Colormag theme, which I repeat “it’s a new imposed theme” and not an update

    Good morning and I apologize for the tone but it is really frustrating to be faced with this situation.

    The Child themed site looks like this:
    FS1IMG

    The only substantial change in the functions.php file is a string to hide the Colormag menu bar to “replace” it with Max Mega Menu and two mu-plugins for WP Customer Area functions, then only changes to the standard theme options (colors, sidebars….).

    If I update the theme and that’s it, this happens:
    FS2IMG

    If I switch to the updated Colormag theme from the previous Child the look improves a bit, but:

    1) the pages made with Elementor now seem to have a random layout and not as they were previously set and have “lost” the responsive settings:
    -this is how it looked: FSELE1IMG
    -this how it looks: FSELE2IMG (among other things when I try to re-edit them with Elementor this sees them correctly and handles them correctly, then they are displayed by the theme in that wrong way)
    -this is the responsive behavior I was talking about: FSELERES1

    2) WP Customer Area pages that looked like this before the update:
    FSWPCA1
    they no longer work, when I try to open the page the page freezes and if I block the execution it looks like this:
    FSWPCA2
    This is an absolutely essential function for my site since the game takes place with the functions of the private areas.

    3) The MaxMegaMenu no longer spans full width and is no longer stickly

    4) Obviously I lose and I should go and review all the standard settings on colors and miscellaneous made after the creation of the child theme a long time ago wasting a lot of time and not being sure that something can even escape

    And these are the biggest problems encountered in a few minutes, I’m afraid there are many others Honestly that could slowly emerge as well as “questionable” choices such as the microscopic font size on Desktop which makes it difficult to read the text and others little things.

    I did all these tests by switching to the main theme (therefore there is no customization, nothing at all) and eliminating the two WPCA mu-plugins, but the problems caused by the theme still do not change.

    It’s not a threat, I really like Colormag and it’s right for me, but I’m seriously thinking about changing the theme because here it would almost be a question of “rebuilding” the site based on what is a new theme in all respects and not an update, at this point one chooses another more “simple” and “less blocked” ??

    I really hope you have solutions or maybe even thinking about releasing a “different” update for those who really would have the site unusable after this update.

    Thank you

    Strange, I can’t navigate even with arrows

    However for the moment I have adopted the solution proposed in the other thread since they only ask me for the carousel ??

    (@mominet)

    Thanks for the reply, what you suggest is exactly the solution I thought of, but I thought there was a simpler way from settings.

    I also thought about applying the slides as a background (so I could eventually add a text above them), but as I write here:
    Link

    in that case why are the sliders not navigable with arrow, dot or scroll?

    Thank you

    No problem, actually it’s fine like this, it was just for curiosity and to understand everything ??

    For the Home, as you said, I solved it by adding a menu item, the causal item is not important, for the search, if anything, I’ll see or in any case, given the potential, I don’t rule out switching to MMM Pro ??

    Now I’m preparing the theme locally and then I’ll apply MMM to the online site, then I’ll probably bother with other questions :))

    Thank you

    Great, it works ??

    Out of curiosity, even if I still invent something for a quick key to return to the Home, but does this code also eliminate the Colormag “house” which is used to return to the Home?

    Also removes the search and the random article as well as the image at the following links?

    Then I also have more to ask but let’s start with this ??

    Thank you

    (@mominet)

    I tried through the theme editor but it won’t let me change it and tells me to do it via ftp, however by changing it from the hosting file manager I still get an error.

    The error is

    Parse error: Unclosed '{' on line 26 in /home/uXXXXXXXXX/domains/fantasvaimec.tech/public_html/wp-content/themes/colormag-child/functions.php on line 34

    I was testing it out on a development site before making live changes that might confuse users ??

    Could this somehow be the problem?

    The structure is practically the same only that the development one has no pointed domain

    Hi Tom,
    in fact I was doing some tests but wanting to leave the little man also in the desktop version perhaps the result would be even more awkward with the slide left compared to how it currently is.

    In the end the users are right ??

    Thanks for the support ??

    Hi Tom,
    yes, I work on child theme.

    I simply pasted the function.php file into the existing text, which looks like this:

    <?php
    // Exit if accessed directly
    if ( !defined( 'ABSPATH' ) ) exit;

    // BEGIN ENQUEUE PARENT ACTION
    // AUTO GENERATED - Do not modify or remove comment markers above or below:

    if ( !function_exists( 'chld_thm_cfg_locale_css' ) ):
        function chld_thm_cfg_locale_css( $uri ){
            if ( empty( $uri ) && is_rtl() && file_exists( get_template_directory() . '/rtl.css' ) )
                $uri = get_template_directory_uri() . '/rtl.css';
            return $uri;
        }
    endif;
    add_filter( 'locale_stylesheet_uri', 'chld_thm_cfg_locale_css' );

    if ( !function_exists( 'chld_thm_cfg_parent_css' ) ):
        function chld_thm_cfg_parent_css() {
            wp_enqueue_style( 'chld_thm_cfg_parent', trailingslashit( get_template_directory_uri() ) . 'style.css', array(  ) );
        }
    endif;
    add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'chld_thm_cfg_parent_css', 10 );

    // END ENQUEUE PARENT ACTION

    function colormag_below_header_bar_display() {
    	?>
    	<nav id="site-navigation">
    		<div class="inner-wrap clearfix">
    			<?php wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location'  => 'primary' ) ); ?>
    		</div>
    	</nav>
    	<?
    }

    I open it with notepad, paste the code and save.
    Once the functions.php file has been replaced, it gives me a critical error, putting the unmodified one back in its place, everything is ok again

    (@mominet)

    Thanks for the reply.

    My users said they prefer it to work as it is at the moment, but also “for study” I still want to learn all the possibilities ??

    So.. let’s proceed ??

    I set the toggle block to Standard menu, how do I proceed with custom CSS?

    Thread Starter mominet

    (@mominet)

    Hi megamenu,

    Basically….yes ??

    Thread Starter mominet

    (@mominet)

    I put the recommended code here in the function.php file

    https://www.megamenu.com/documentation/colormag/

    but it gives me an unrecoverable error, it’s the first time I’ve edited that file, could I have made some mistake?
    I simply edited with a text editor pasting the code and replaced the file
