    Hey, @nastia

Does it matter where in that theme file, functions.php, it should go?

Also, there is a warning not to modify the file in any way—any possible problems you foresee?

    Thanks!

    Hey, @kasia

Thanks for your help. So, I tried the solution you link to (deactivate the BuddyPress Activity Plus and try to post a link as a subscriber on BuddyPress Activity feed).

I don’t know if you would say that “it worked.” Instead of the URL, the title of some posts are displayed as quoted, linked text. But there is no preview such as what is available when an admin posts.

    PHP is version 5.6.

    Deployment URL is:
    https://www.greylocktogether.org/groups/greylock-together/

I don’t believe that I modified the default “subscriber” role using “Members,” but if Activity Plus functionality is dependent on a specific role permission, tell me what that is and I’ll check it immediately.

    Thanks!

Hi, @kasia. Actually, I think I mentioned at the top of this thread that I deactivated all other plug-ins and switched to the default theme on my own before @nastia recommended switching on the debug-log.

So, I’m wondering if there’s a role problem. A setting? A database problem? I just don’t know enough about code to go anywhere from here.

    Thanks!

Thank you, Nastia, for the reply! No errors are visible when a user (anyone below admin) attempts to insert a link. The debug log file is here:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/p1oylkdzsy0ru73/debug.log?dl=0

I don’t know much about code, but the word “protected” comes up a few times in the log. I’m hoping this is something as simple as me being stupid and improperly changing a setting and forgetting which one it was…

Again, thank you so, so much for your time and attention.

Actually, one of the users is a Subscriber/Author (I’m using the “Members” plugin) and a Participant. She is able to post links just fine. I created a user with her exact permissions, yet that dummy user canNOT post links.

Also, after looking deeper into the forums, I found a post about, apparently, the same problem, but he posted once and then never came back to answer questions, so the thread got closed. Someone’s advice was “Switch to default theme and disable all other plugins,” which I decided to try—no effect.

Hey, thanks! I had the same question and, thanks to you, Geoff, not only solved the spacing issue, but now understand how powerful the super-cool “Additional CSS” window is.

    Happy New Year!

    Thanks, t-p!

I’m wondering specifically if anyone specifically has any experience with (in this case the Video Whisper plugin (which I uninstalled long ago) upload directories’ permissions being set to 777, and whether this necessarily indicates a hack.

Sucuri finds no issues, so I have to wonder if there are upload files with the wrong perms occassionly that don’t mean anything. Obviously, I want to take every necessary precaution, but if a DreamHost bot just happens to identify whay *may* be a threat (emphasis theirs) on a routine scan, I can’t stop work for a day or two to go on a snark hunt.

Anyone have any problems with Video Whisper? (I deleted its uploads folder now)

    Thanks!

Thanks, Joni! Yes, I found WordFence a few months ago, and I breathe easier every day. Kind of frightening to see the stats on just how many attempts are happening every day, isn’t it?

And yes, Carlos—amazing how many hack attempts occur by trying the username “admin.” Yet, people still neglect to change it.

Thank you SO MUCH, t-p, aCstudent, and carlosea! I can breathe again, after reading your responses and following up on your suggestions. I have been so lucky so far that I panicked the moment I saw something suspicious.

    Best regards—

Nevermind, thanks. The featured posts do this because they are supposed to in a responsive design environment. This issue occurs due to viewing on a laptop and sizing the browser just a fraction too small. Never happens on a large monitor.

    Good afternoon, all–

First off, I really like this theme, Expound. If I knew how to build themes (which I’m going to figure out one day), this is pretty close to the theme that I would build for myself.

My issue is probably very simple and obvious. I want my featured content on the home page (below the newest post) to be displayed the way it is in Context Canada’s site.

https://www.contextcanada.com/sparkle/ or at https://www.infobusiness3x.de , with the teasers for four featured posts lined up horizontally, and all older posts stacking up vertically below them with a sidebar to the right.. It’s this last part that’s troubling me. Please check it out here:

    https://penandplow.net

After the most recent featured post, ALL the posts stack up vertically. The sidebar content (widgets like Search box, Calendar, etc.) are so far down the page that most users wouldn’t realize they even exist.

When I first installed Expound, it worked exactly as it does on these other sites.

I haven’t changed a thing as far as CSS or anything…I can’t find any setting to adjust this, and, though I have searched, I can’t find a post that answers this question (probably because it’s so simple.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    J.
