This issue of PHP has resolved my problems. I contacted HostGator and they knew exactly what to do once I got this PHP warning.

So, for folks having these problems, it is the PHP.

Thanks to everyone here that has tried to help.

I don’t know what it is about this PHP and the install that caused this problem but that is only for the realm of a techie which I am not.

    Thanks Jan Dembowski,

I got a notice that went to my junk folder on hotmail from my host gator account 24 hours before this 3.5 update took effect. I would have caught it if it went to my email address associated with this web site I built with wordpress. I was building a web site with wordpress, not a one page blog.

I was enjoying Christmas with family when this update got initiated with host gator through wordpress. I would have been on top of things if it were not for the Holidays!

Now I am dealing with this 3.5. This is a techie nightmare to me.

I agree that 3.42 would be a better update. I had to use the quick install on host gator to get wordpress installed. Fantastico would not let me install wordpress for some reason. Even the tech guy at host gator could not install it for me manually with Fantastico. So, we used quick install instead and it loaded. I have very little control over updates like I have with the fantastico format. This seems to be the crux of the problem.

I am just a newbie to wordpress. All of this talk about going to fields that I can’t find is not a host gator issue. Hostgator can only be nice and tell me that I have to figure this stuff out. That is all they can do.

I have not initiated this revert back to 3.41 since I communicated with host gator for about three hours today on their chat service. I have a service ticket that I can initiate but there is a major problem with doing that. I could lose work that I did after Dec 22nd.

I was hoping that I would get some constructive solution to why this is happening so I could fix it without going to the revert to 3.41 solution. From what I was told. I could revert back to a saved date of Dec 22nd……but…. wordpress could re-install 3.5 minutes later without me being able to stop it.That is the major problem that I am dealing with plus losing $15 for the lesson on how not to fix something.

I hope this explains my reasoning for being quite upset. If I was just making a one page blog, I could tinker with it and lose the whole page and it wouldn’t be a big problem. But I have some huge web pages with videos and pictures and enough text to write a book. I could lose all of this work trying to tinker with this 3.5 and not knowing a dang thing about what I am doing.

I am calling Hostgator right now to know exactly how to save what I do have in a backup. I did do this once and when I went to see if I saved it, I then realized that the backup was corrupted for some reason…..another nightmare.

I guess it is my fault for not using an Html Editor in the first place but I want to save the site if I can.

The two tech people from Host gator told me that they have been swamped with people about wordpress 3.5 problems. They agreed that this never should have happened.

I mean, didn’t wordpress know that this was a bug update?

Like I said, If someone could tell me exactly what to do, I would appreciate it. Telling me the php is messed up does not tell me anything. I have read forum comments on this problem till my head is spinning. I don’t see any resolved posts on this 3.5 problem. All I see is continued issues that can’t seem to be resolved.

For example, One person did one thing to fix one problem and then they still have a problem with non responsive menus and such. I bet they just had a one page blog and gave up.

I don’t want to read a techie Bible to fix this. I just want some concrete step by step fix to problems that many are reporting without losing my work.

If anybody can help, I would appreciate it.

There is an old saying. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. In this case, supposedly making wordpress better has made it a nightmare for me the wordpress users around the globe.

    Here are my problems:
Can’t edit in the visual tab anymore. I can see the visual tab but it will not initialize.
The HTML tab is gone……there is a Text Tab in its place that has the HTML version of the site on pages and posts.

When I first went to my site today, the visual tab was blank. It looked like all of my work was gone on every page and post.

Then I clicked the new text tab next to the visual tab. It shows the HTML version of the site. Then I can’t click the visual tab knowing that my work is still there.

When I tried to re-activate super cache, I got this:

Warning! WP Super Cache caching broken! The script advanced-cache.php could not load wp-cache-phase1.php.

    That is greek to me.

When I tried to activate captcha again, I got the same thing.

Warning! WP Super Cache caching broken! The script advanced-cache.php could not load wp-cache-phase1.php.

I am calling host gator now. I will see if they can help me with this.

Mika, why to you want everyone to have the same theme?

By the way, the HostGator techie said my complaint wasn’t the only complaint about the same issue. They agreed with me that it is WordPress that is the problem and it is not right to get the users to try to fix the problem. This is your problem WordPress!

OK, I just paid $15 to get Hostgator to revert my site back to 3.41.

If there is any way that you WordPress folks can stop updating me to 3.5 I would appreciate it.

But….I am well aware that is not going to happen since I used quick install to upload WordPress instead of doing it manually. I tried doing it manually and even the techie guy from HostGator could not figure it out about why you could not install manually. Now I know why. So WordPress can update at will with a bug update.

I will save my site to my external HD and use my HTML editor to create the site with the same template. What a Pain! I never expected this from WordPress.

I have read the threads on this and none have been fixed unless you use the Twenty Twelve Theme. That ain’t gonna happen.

Thanks…..NOT….Wordpress! You created a bug of an update. I am sure I am not the only one that is not pleased by this 3.5 update. Thanks for nothing!

And Thank you TP, thank you for your time to address this problem that I am having. I was just trying to get someone from wordpress to address my post to put an end to this problem. I didn’t mean to seem that I was cranky at you. I just realized that you are just a member like me. I thought you were a wordpress person when I made that post.

    Sorry TP

I create my own templates. I could care less about mobile phone accessibility or the way my site looks any cell phone. This is a web site, not a cell phone site that I am building.

My point is that I shouldn’t have to do a thing with this update to make the wordpress work as it did before the update when I was using 3.41. Hostgator told me that 3.5 was automatically updated on quick install. I had no choice. Now I am not happy a bit.

For me to jump through all of these hoops to get 3.5 to work like it did six hours ago with 3.41 is a WordPress problem, not hostgator’s problem. I have already touched base with them and they agree that it is wordpress, not hostgator.

If what you are saying is that I have to change the way my wordpress site looks just to please this new look you want for wordpress, I think you have to rethink a bit on that.

My dashboard on posts and pages is totally dysfunctional at this moment.

If you are saying that 3.5 is circumventing all the work I have done on my site. Just tell me now so I can switch to an HTML editor and not have comments available on my site. That was the only reason I was using WordPress.

This 3.5 should not make it so that I have to do anything to keep my dashboard working as it did before. If this was known beforehand that this would happen, something is amiss with someone’s thinking……Logic…etc….

Just tell me what to do to get back to 3.41 that was working well for me. Don’t make me have to do geek work to make your 3.5 work as it should in the first place.

Help me. Don’t pass me off with links to do anything. All I want to know is if I can get back to my work without doing four or five things to just try to make 3.5 work as it should. OK!
