Thank you for your suggestion but of course I would like to know the reason why there are these “ghost” spam links inside my website.

It seems they are injected in some way but it’s difficult to identify the source. Automatic scan with security tools, manual review of theme and plugins, reinstall WordPress folders wp-admin and wp-includes.. nothing helped to identify the problem.

It’s strange that the spam links are 404s, no one it’s a valid page, so there is no advantage to hack a website and spam with this technique. Am I wrong?

I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but my website lost quite a lot of positions in Google, more or less from the moment these 404s appeared in Search Console.

@aqsad the plugin helps to collect the email addresses in MailChimp but it does not send any email directly so emails sent via SMTP are not involved. In my installation everything works correctly.

Thank you Frank, I checked the permissions related to that folder and it seems it was setup with wrong permissions.

Little update: I marked as resolved but I think it’s not. ??

The second “(optional)” string in the span tag comes from the file wc-template-functions.php, on line 2628:

So, why there is the “(optional)” here:

I’m sorry, the code in my first post came out from a test and I removed the “optionl” string in the if statement.

By the way, at line 624 of:

there is:

$address_2_placeholder = __( 'Apartment, suite, unit etc. (optional)', 'woocommerce' );

Before updating to WC 3.6.3 I had not the problem of doubled “(optionl)” so probably you are right, I may changed something in the template override. I will investigate there. Thanks.

Do you think applying only this pull request (replacing the file in Woocommerce includes folder) fixes quickly the problem?
