@esmi – OK, tried the latest fix you recommended. Still didn’t solve the problem.

@dkeenan – that seems an interesting point you made. Where is the file (name) for the 2 items? It would seem there is a condition whereby the visual editor is not displayed. I wonder if we remove that bit of code then would that solve the problem since now there aren’t any conditions for turning the visual editor off.

@esmi – OK, I will do that tomorrow afternoon and then let you know how that works out.

@kmessinger – Thanks, but that is set correctly.

@esmi – I am really concerned by this. The site is a really big site. I am concerned about a re-install and then upload because this isn’t exactly something I am used to doing and if this site goes down or can’t be put back together in exactly the same shape very quickly, this will cause tremendous problems with my client.

@esmi – I did the reset as indicated via phpmyadmin. It did reset the plugins folder, but that did not solve the problem.

Just to add clarification, I am not using symple-shortcodes plugin.

Hmmm ….. good idea. I will do this once the next plugin update comes along which hopefully will be in the net day or two.

@esmi @kmessinger OK, I followed the instructions and reset the plugins folder.

That did not solve the problem. One other clue might be whenever I am in visual editor and I have done nothing in either the visual editor or text editor, when i go to leave the page, it prompts me as to whether I want to leave the page without saving.

This never happened before when i had not done any editing at all, I could view a page in editor mode and leave it without the prompt.

@esmi – Your link doesn’t work. Where esle can i get instruction on resetting the plugins folder.

@esmi I noticed one interesting thing if this help. I had CKEditor as a plugin. When i activated it, even the HTML editor would not work. You couldn’t even toggle between the 2.

I have deleted that plugin.

@esmi I have now done rthe following:

Updated to WP 3.6.1
Uploaded the theme, plugins and the entire website again.
I have turned off all plugins
I switched over to the 2013 theme
I adjusted the wp-config.php file as described above.

The visual editor still does not work.

@photocrati, I think it may have been a theme issue not sure. I talked to the theme developers as well and he indicated i should surround the shortcode with {raw][/raw] tags and i did and it is working now.
