Many plugins exist for managing comments, be it to set them on/off or to have them close automatically after a period of time.

As previously mentioned, once you upload an image, you can reasonably expect that people will download it. Many graphics artists and photographers no longer upload full-sized or full-quality versions of their images for precisely this reason. I’m not sure in this case how altering the URL that such images live under would help in any way, unless you are proposing that such images would be watermarked on the fly, in some way.

The usual method of troubleshooting would be to revert to a default theme, and disable your plugins.

Pay particular attention to any plugins that might claim to be “backup” type plugins, I expect, and, if you do not trust your theme, and the author does not respond, stop using it.

I’ve deleted the post in question from this thread, as I’m not sure that it’s particularly ethical to disclose methods of subverting plugins to gain extra functionality.

Unless you really need them, you can turn off the option to allow everyone to register users from your settings page.

You could contact your own provider to see if they can block the attacker at their borders.

What surprises me is that in coming to the WordPress homepage I see no link to report such activities

www.ads-software.com simply provides software to run sites. It’s the site owners who choose to spam other places, unfortunately.

You’d need to contact whoever is hosting your site.

As far as I know there’s nothing that sophisticated managing the channel ban list.

If this is about a site hosted on wordpress.com then you’re complaining in the wrong place, you need to visit wordpess.com support.

If it’s just a site that happens to be running WordPress, then you’re effectively talking to the people who provide a book that text is written in. Complain to the source, or whoever is hosting the site.

Speak to sivel or viper007bond on IRC.. They’re the most active ops for the channel.

As you’ve no doubt noticed, since it’s an address-based ban on a dynamic IP, connecting from elsewhere will let you in, but that’s technically ban evasion and might be frowned upon.

To give a somewhat more serious answer, people don’t come here to see people expressing themselves, they come here to get their support questions answered.

You can express yourself in your own blog and other social media, which have their own sites and such. Expressing yourself here simply adds unwanted clutter to threads, causing frustration to users.

Whilst your signature might just be a simple link, some people might want to add 30 lines of text and art, which would then appear after every single post they make. Frankly, we can do without that. It’s easier to have a blanket rule about it than to attempt to police individual signatures and then be distracted into rules-lawyering when someone thinks that their signature is “ok”.
