    <b>update to previous post</b>
ok I updated my WordPress from 3.4 to 3.5.1 yet the problem persists.
I also have a demo blog in a different host for testing purpose and the printfriendly plugin works fine there.
The difference between live site and demo test site is only the htaccess.
So, I think problem is definitely with the htaccess file.

I suggest you try a plugin named “Contact 7”
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/contact-form-7/

it allows you to build custom forms of your choice.

add a new widget (TEXT/HTML) above each post’s heading,
then in that widget, add blank HTML lines (i.e.
    < br > < br > without spaces.

i had almost exact problem while installing SMF forum using fantastico. it won’t accept my password, new password technique wouldn’t work either.

What i gathered is that it was some security rules in .htaccess file that prevented URLs containing “;,?=” etc.

So, I took backup of my htaccess and then deleted the .htaccess file
then i was able to login.
I suggest you try that method.

if that doesn’t work, please see if all the CHMOD settings are correct.

    good luck

I tried all the tricks from the book but none helped.
Ultimately I filed a support-ticket to the web host company.
They did some secret magic and index.php is now working!
So the site is up and running again.

And thanks a lot for your quick responses and the kind gesture of helping others.
    Have a great week!

thanks but it didnot work either.
when I tried to reinstall wordpress it gives me error

    Could not copy file.: ../public_html/index.php

    Installation Failed

manuall instllation method won’t work either because that index.php file is unwritable!

so utlimately the problem is with this .index.php please tell me how to delete it, because everytime I delete it, it somehow comes backagain in the folder. and I’m unable to change its CHMOD settings either.

[ERROR]Allowed memory size of 270532608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 125829120 bytes)

I had similar problem and here is how I fixed it.
First I thought, something was wrong with the backup-plugin so i tested other backup plugins but same php out of memory error. For example

“Database error MySQL server has gone away for query”

    or

    “Cannot allocate sufficient memory”

So I thought something wrong with php memory. Then some articles suggested to edit wordpress’s .db files or some other files in cpanel, to increase memory or time limit, but those tricks didnot work out.

Finally I came to know that one of the possible reason for memory error is, your mySQL file is too big (something like more than 200MB) That’s why memory runs out while doing things like backup. The culprits are following plugins-

You may be using one or both of following plugins
    1. Better WordPress security
    2. Akismet spam remover

both of them create ‘logfiles’ in your MYSQL file and over the time, because of them, the SQL file becomes very huge.
So, you’ve to goto phpmyadmin >> empty the tables that contain those logfiles.
Then try to take backup again and it’ll run smoothly.

In my case, Better WordPress Security alone had huge logfile of 480MB inside mysql. When I emptied the “wp_bwps_log”, the size of mysql file was reduced to barely 47MB (for 700 posts and 3000 comments on my site.)
And then I tried to take backup using “BackWPup” plugin and it worked smoothly without any problem.

    @bit51

Are you saying clear logs didn’t erase the tables

Yes. That’s the problem, I checked it one more time. Even if I clear the logs through dashboard, they still show in the sql file under phpmyadmin. So I’ve to manually empty the table every once in a while.

I hadn’t seen any logs that large (my own largest site which gets 1000 – 2000 uniques a day has a BWPS log of about 30MB after running since March)

Well earlier I had blogspot, and then I moved to self hosted wordpress.
While most of the posts got successfully imported, some articles couldn’t get imported. So plenty of 404s on my site. To fix them, I would have to manually write those articles again – which is too tiresome and boring, so I keep the site as it is. That’s how I got 480MB log file. ??

But yes, I confirm the bug that

    @frederick Townes
Actually I got all that problem because some clown had hacked my website and deleted the SQL database.
But still the site kept showing many (cached) pages thanks to your W3 plug-in.
So, now I’m grateful to you for keeping my site partially alive for the readers, during that time, otherwise it’d have been a total blackout. ??

Later on, I restored my website using a backup SQL file.
Now the site is up and running properly: https://www.mrunal.org

    Thanks and God bless you.
